Evaluating the "House" suit

I visited the local haberdasher yesterday to have a look around and it didn't take me long to realize that brand new Canalli, Oxxford, Samuelsohn, and Brioni suits are out of my price range.

They do have a "house" suit that runs around $600 that caught my interest, and seemed to be comparable with the 2 leading contenders for my next purchase, Suitsupply or the BB 1818. The house suit is half canvassed and made in China. With the house suit being about $150 more than SS, and on par with BB price wise , if all else is equal I see the value in buying local where I can choose my fabrics and work with a master tailor on the fit and alterations in store.

My question is how do I evaluate the quality and construction of the suit to help with the decision? I don't want to end up spending $600 and later find out that I could have gotten a better suit from Suitsupply for $450.

You might want to also consider the Benjamin Sartorial suits from ehaberdasher.com. The suits are fully canvassed, constructed of quality fabrics, and at $525, they offer great value in my opinion. I have two of his suits: one in charcoal grey and one in navy. I have to say that I am very satisfied with both suits, and I have gotten compliments while wearing them. Plus, Benjamin is a member here. They have a good return policy, as long as you don't cut the tags or have the suits altered.
