This is probably my favorite spring/summer collection of all time, or at least since I've been wearing/buying clothes. Sure, there were a few misses here and there (like some of the painted/printed shirts), but overall, I found it to be very interesting, very well made, very simple, and had "perfect" essentials a great jean (Japanese selvedge), great accessories, a great shoe, a classic summer suit, etc. Anyway, I purchased more pieces from this collection than probably any other. http://men.style.com/fashion/collect...te/thumb/JSMEN Highlights:

^haha, I meant like paying close attention to what I wear, buying "fashion" stuff or more expensive things, etc.

Anyway, at the age of 19, wasn't I surprised to find that going nekkid wasn't what everybody else was doing!

Very well made and very simple, yes. Very interesting? C'mon. The pants look mediocre in terms of cut, and i don't care about them being skinny or whatever. Plenty of loose to in between cut pants that i've seen look nice. These just look cut really bland. I've liked other jil collections and cuts much more. Red belt looks nice in the white pic, but the fuschia one looks like *********** jean fit

Fair enough! I like the fuschia belt, but I can see what you mean in terms of being "interesting." I think it has a lot of subtlety, not blandness, in the little details... but I'll be the first to admit that much of the appeal of older JIl (like Helmut) was in handling/seeing them in person.

I'm sure they're wonderful to handle in person, i just don't see much interesting in the cut. Maybe being so uber-safe that it is unique in that way? I don't know. But i just really dislike some of the cuts. I can see how you'd probably really enjoy it, then again, i'm normally not a fan of the way your clothes fit you. I do like that white outfit though. The jeans on the other hand, are an atrocity. Jeans are not trousers

Agree w/ chrono...it's fine, but let's be honest: it's only a few steps removed from J Crew.

That's actually less of a knock on Jil than a compliment to J Crew...

Edit: disagree on the jeans, though - nothing wrong with a fuller cut.

I don't care about full cut jeans, but don't really like drapey jeans like those. There are a lot of weird bunches and folds and stuff in some of those. I like full cut pants with volume but jeans do not drape like trousers do so it often doesn't seem to work. Just like i didn't really like asobu's junya x levis giant jeans. If they were trousers i would've liked them better but as raw jeans it looked a bit odd

I've always thought that this season looked less like a coherent designer collection and more like an amalgam of pieces that could have come from any number of sources. (although there are some Jil trademarks of course) They're all looks that could be seen on the street, and that's exactly why I like it and keep going back to it for inspiration. The same goes for s/s 2006 actually, but cannot be said for 2007.

Terrible, can be mistaken for a lot of generic garbage on the runway like marc jacobs etc.

Interesting remarks, guys. What I like most about these discussions is that five of us look at the SAME collection and take away such different things from it. What some of you guys see as negatives to the collection, I actually saw as positive. It's neat to see how each of our aesthetics differ.

Anyway, for me, Jil was ALWAYS about "boring." I think since Raf we've come to reconsider what/how Jil is, but since the beginning, my thoughts on JIl have been "boring, but the BEST boring you'll ever get." It's not costume-y and sometimes the hints of flare are so subtle, you miss them unless you are the one wearing the garment. I think they are very personal clothes, maybe more than any other brand I've worn. LIke, nobody is going to know that there is 1% rubber hidden in the fabric content of that cashmere sweater except for you, because it fits and feels so good.

I still got some Jil jeans from there. 2 sizes too big now...boyfriend jeans!

My ex in LA still has my belt and cow skull shirt.
