Esquire's Big Black Book for 2008 has been out for a week or two now, and I just gave it a good skim through. It's pretty good overall, but is about on par with what they've done in the previous versions.

Other than the nice ads which most of us have already seen, they have some good layouts on the revival of American clothing and designers, Neapolitan tailoring, tuxedos (which looks like a toned down Tom Ford marketing campaign), English/Irish knitwear, and outdoor clothing.

I wish they put these out more often.

Thanks -- I'll have to keep an eye out for it. If any Canadians know where I might find this, please let me know. I recall I had to order last year's up from the US.

I thought it was pretty good, too.

Just bought it yesterday. Although I have liked it in the past, I found this year's issue somehow less substantial than years past. Still not bad for 10 bucks or whatever it was..

i browsed through it at Borders today. I have to say that the picture accompanying the Monkstrap explanation/definition completely renewed my interest in the Chapel. I have to get a pair one of these days.

Picked it up at the airport, as well. Thought it was quite good.

It is not as informative as last year's edition. And, 20% price increase.

I didn't like at as much as the first two. Without making a side-by-side comparison, it seemed there was more showcasing of horribly overpriced designer goods with less good basic information for the guy that wants to dress better.

I too much preferred the naked blonde in the black tie section to any of the ensembles shown therein. Most of the latter looked pretty awful to me.

I wasn't impressed much either. It was given to me, and then I gave it to a friend who's interested in learning. But I hesitated, bec. I thought it might do more harm than good, precisely bec. of the reasons JLib says above.
