Esquire The Handbook of Style - worth buying it?

As I cannot find it a in a book shop near me, is it worth buying? I'm disappointed by the latest issues of Esquire Black Book (too many very expensive items and not much information)

Coincidently, someone just gave me a copy as a Christmas gift and I think it is great! It has information on just about every aspect of style, including details like what kinds of pant cuffs are appropriate with what shoes, where pants should fall on shoes, etc.

To each his own, but for me it is a very valuable resource.

I saw this book at a Midtown B&N (5th ave) a few weeks ago. They have the book displayed on the main floor, in front of the information booth. I am suprised that Amazon does not have this book available (yet).

Anyway... The book is a compilation of "The Esquire Black Book of Style" or whatever their annual style publication is called. There are numerous short articles or tips/tricks about shoes, suits,shirts and other common men's style/fashion/iGent topics.

Overall, i think it is money well spent at the very modest sum of $14.

If one were to purchase one book on style, what would it be? Is this the definitive book on American style, or does anyone have a better suggestion?

Got it a few weeks ago. Probably worth the price although I don't think I learned that much from it and there were a few things I (and many other forumites) would disagree with.

I did not find it nearly as informative as Flusser's "Dressing" or Manton/Antongiavanni's "The Suit," but it has some useful tips.

I'm kind of surprised myself amazon doesn't have it yet, but they will have eventually. It's probably a book worth having in your library, even if you don't agree with everything shown it would at least provide an insign into style

I did find one contradiction in it: in one place, it says that wearing a shirt with cufflinks and dressy jeans is a good look and in elsewhere, it says that a shirt with cufflinks should never be worn with denim.

Which is correct?

If you are new to the game then it is a good thing to buy. I paged through it and decided not to buy it as I have been styleforuming for almost a year now and there seemed to be not much 'new' information for me.

I would categorize its style as modernly classic. It still recommends the essential classics like a gray suit, a navy blazer, ties, etc, but also with a little modernity.

It would be perfect for a 20-30 something who has very little sense of clothing.

Shirts with French/double cuffs should always be worn with coats.

So... is this book worth our time/money? It seems nice to have all the 'tips' and 'rules' in one place, and in what appears to be an attractive package as well. Is it in colour?

I wouldn't, but them I'm not overly fond of cufflinks with suits either.
