sorry I couldn't find a link, but esquire did a bit in march's copy of a day in the life of their best dressed normal man. I don't find him very stylish.

I agree with Doc. not the best choice but not bad. He seems like an "everyman" that doesnt have tons of $ at his disposal and makes his dollar go far as possible. sounds like a regular SFer

Just read the article. Must have mention Kenneth Cole 10 times or so. His suits were nice, but his other choices seemed off.

I can see him wearing both blackberries on his waist.

I received my issue in the mail recently and I thought it was an interesting article. Of course, not everyone will agree with his choices. Since everyone have different taste, I think it's unfair to criticize him like that.

I tried reading the article while on the can, but the time to get through the entire article was more than I wanted to sit on the toilet. It got a little tiresome telling me every minute detail of "the best dressed" man's life. That guy makes $150K in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is probably equivalent to at least $250K-$300 in L.A., SF or NYC. Given that, I'm surprised about all his Kenneth Cole and Aldo shoes. And for being such a watch hound, it doesn't sound like he had anything great until Esquire gave him an IWC.

I'm not saying that someone has to spend a lot of money to be stylish, and hell, most of us here know how to go about this without spending so much, but his choices seem to reflect he is unaware about quality brands and such. He seems like someone who is very social and spends more of his time, energy and money on entertainment and social activities.

In any event, my opinion is that he is underwhelming, but a fair choice for a stylish every day man. I'm not saying I could do any better, but at the same time, I didn't try out for the competition either.

His style wasn't my style, but I could see how he could be chosen as "best dressed" because of the way the economy is.

With the current downturn, the magazine wasn't going to glamorize overspending and excess, so they chose someone who is thrifty and choses brands that their reader base could access easily and cheaply.

from the POV of the magazine, it makes sense to me!

IMHO of course.

label whore.

I maintain that you can be stylish without being a patron of artisanal clothes makers or high priced fashion houses.

If I recall there was a bit about him saying he hates clothing which shows wealth and money, but when it mentions the outfit he wears to the drug store it included a gucci belt with a g buckle.

I have three or four months of esquire which I have yet to bring myself to read. I don't know why, but I'm just not compelled to crack open the cover.

Was this guy picked from a bunch of contestants? Didn't they have a whole selection process last time? Was this guy the winner from that?

I read the article. I think he was reasonably well dressed and put-together. If I saw him getting out of his vehicle or walking down the street, I'd probably think he's a little better presented than the average schmuck in a suit. Though I agree about the watches and shoes (perhaps he just hasn't realized what else is out there), I think he's a fair choice of an "average" dude (okay, on the wealthier side of average) who has some sense of a personal style and makes it work. I don't agree with the above comments that he's likely "that guy" who wears both blackberries on his belt; I just don't see that. That having been said, while I was reading the article I was also thinking to myself "There are probably 15 guys on SF in his income range who could put him to shame..."
