So to make long story short, I bought a suit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ermenegil...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 of Ebay , but before I did this I wasnt very informed about the different styles in cut zegna uses .And after reading some threads here and there , I found out that this cut, Fit Roma, is boxier and not the slimmer style I am looking for.So here comes the fun part , I wear a size 48 mainly, so I was wondering if I can slim the suit and pants at a tailor without to much fuss.

P.S taking into consideration the overall condition of the suit, do you think I payed to much money?

Thank you! Will be awaiting your answer.

The obvious (and probably unhelpful) answer is "wait and see". That said:

I own 2 Romas, and the one you bought may not be as boxy as you may think. You probably know that the Roma is now discontinued; however, some of the older Romas came with pleated trousers. I am a 50 EU but fit very nicely into that 48 EU Roma. My other is flat front, and though also 48 EU, is somewhat tighter. In other words, a flat front Roma, as least as far as mine are concerned, is slimmer. The difference is that compared to the Milano, the shoulders are more structured, but still quite soft compared to British suits.

The current mainline models are the Milano and the Torino. Milano has soft shoulders and is now the standard Drop 7, whereas Torino looks like a super fitted Roma, and is the Drop 8. I've gone from going gaga over my Milano to heavily favouring my Roma, so you'll never know until you put it on.

FYI the price is pretty good for a used mainline Zegna suit of that vintage (I want to say mid to late 2000s). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

A good tailor can certainly make some adjustments to the jacket and trousers to achieve a more fitted look. It won't be any fuss, but it could end up costing you the same amount that you paid for the suit.

Alex, nice thread, I'm looking to pull off the same stunt. I was recently fitted for a milano in size 50 (euro), and I loved it. I haven't tried on any other Zegna suit coats yet, but all the sport coats and blazers I tried on were great in 50 as well. (I was also recently 'fitted' to a RLBL size 44L, which gives me some doubts about that line)

Please keep us up to date with the fit as-purchased and tailoring costs/outcome!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
