Can someone here comment on the quality of Carmina compared to Alden? I'm think hard about the snuff suede austerity brouge and i'm not opposed to the price ($550) but for that much money I can almost get into some more cordovan Aldens. Also, I know I can get an Alden wingtip blucher in snuff suede for under $500. I just don't know enough about Carmina. I guess I want to know if Carmina is on the same level of quality as Alden or is it a step up? The deadline to preorder is Friday so I need to make my mind up quick.

Also, has anybody seen the Carmina snuff suede in person? Is it the same color as the Alden snuff suede? All I have to go by are pictures which can distort color.

I'm an Alden guy, but have placed an order for this austerity brogue because from what I can gather from this forum, Carmina should be either a step up from Alden or at the very least at the same level. Carminas look sleeker, which I like as an alternative to my Aldens. As for the price, I figure if I get the lasted shoe trees, which Mike is providing at a good discount, the price is pretty much right in line with Alden. While I have no personal experience with Carmina yet, I felt that it's a pretty safe bet. Hopefully others can provide some direct comparisons to Alden for you.

Owning a bunch of Aldens and a Carmina pair of the saddle shell double monks, I can definitively say the finishing on my Carminas are far superior to any of my Aldens. The styling on Carminas are much sleeker, so they are very different aesthetic than my Aldens. I still love my Aldens and both brands have a place in a man's wardrobe.

I would definitely recommend hopping on the austerity brogue preorder; its a style of shoe that Alden doesn't do and I, for one, am super excited for this special makeup.

I don't own any Carminas yet (but I'm in on the austerity brogue order), but I do have a number of pairs of Aldens and have checked out the Carminas in person.

Echoing CHRK33, the Carminas seem much sleeker and have a superior level of finish as compared to the Aldens. The Carminas seem to be on the level with, if not surpassing, Crockett and Jones bench grade (of which I have a few pairs and love).

I'm consider the special order Carmina or the Alden Snuff Suede Wingtip blucher from J Gilbert. I'm looking for something i can wear with a suit or with a pair of jeans. I know the austerity brogue will work with a suit but i'm having trouble imagining it working with a pair of denims. What do you think? Also, is the snuff suede color the same on both brands?

I hope to see a re-issue of the London Lounge special balmoral boots if possible.

I'm going to wear it with jeans. I don't see why you can't.

Isn't Epaulet also doing a cordovan balmoral boot that is similar?

Proposed makeup right now is chestnut shell balmoral boot on the Robert last, brogued cap toe, speed hooks, light antique closed welt, and possibly some other details to be determined once Mike digs out from his trip to Pitti.

Stay tuned. Hopefully we'll get a preorder going on this shortly.

    Hey guys!

Just wanted to check in quickly. I had an amazing time at Pitti and the Carmina meeting was phenomenal. I have a bunch of photos to show you of all different sorts of styles. Two quick things:

    1. We can still accept preorders on the Snuff Suede Austerity Brogue. It's open until this Friday evening:
    http://www.epauletshop.com/servlet/the-1357/Special-Order-Snuff-Suede/Detail

    2. I have some incredible and brand new leather swatches to show you. I got cuttings of a French "Lama" calfskin. It has a beautiful grain and an insanely soft hand. It comes in a few colors, but it really stands out in "gunmetal" and "terracotta." These could be great options for interesting non-shell shoes in a uncommon material. The pricing is in line with their usual calfskin.

    OK, I'll return soon!
    Mike

This was posted on the Carmina shoe porn thread by another member. I could go for something like this.
