Is a boot the only option?
I don't think we could get enough people to agree on a shoe.
[quote ] Would the non-boot guys be interested in something like this? These are suede austerity brogues on the Simpson for Spencer Hart. I prefer the lighter tan but find them both very attractive. Found these on the "shoe porn thread" from Malford of London, Post 8254.
I think the shoe guys became disinterested when the thread turned strictly to boots. I would vote for these in tan!!

I would be interested in these shoes as well in whatever color that light brown color is on the right. Beautiful. Only need 4 more folks...Anyone?
Put me down for these austerity brogues in the medium brown. They are gorgeous! Good austerity brogues are hard to come by. I actually like the boot choices but not a fan of the cordovan. One problem for me would be the Simpson last. My wide feet would prefer the Rain or Inca lasts.
Sure. We should see strong navy blue cordovan sales in Q1, likely bolstered by an uptick in balmoral boot demand, though tight manufacturer inventories could push the latter out into Q2 or later. And as one maker of shell shoes and boots raises its prices, other brands' affordability will be improving (to borrow a favorite phrase from a National Real Estate Brokers Association sponsored commercial of a year or so ago).
Didn't mean to marginalize the shoe guys. Since I'm interested in the boots, I ran with that. Figured someone else would get the shoe decision going, and it looks like you will. That austerity brogue does look sharp. Hope you get the numbers you need so we can see the makeup in action on some SF members' feet.
Austerity Brogue Preference Voting Form!!! Time to drum up some interest...
I think this is correct. I initially followed the thread with interest, but then it became the Carmina Epaulet Boot thread and I think many of us who were interested in shoes just stopped following. Nothing wrong with that but it should have been broken into two threads. I have no interest in austerity brogues--I am actually quite sick of austerity of any kind.
I think it would be cool to discuss some potential shoes but not sure this thread can be resurrected to do that.
No worries...threads have a habit of taking of taking a life of their own. The boots are sharp and I would seriously consider buying for a fall shoe but since delivery is spring, I want a shoe for spring/summer. There's no reason why we can't do this twice a year if there's enough interest and epaulet and Carmina are agreeable.
Thanks CHRK33...the shoe pictured is on the Simpson last but I chose the Inca since its the only last that I currently have on my Carmina double monks. Here's a few more pics.
Sorry that I've been M.I.A. with the gonzo Holiday rush here. Just want to check in on the three shoes being considered:
Shell Cordovan Balmoral Boots
I got word back from Carmina. For brown-ish colors shell colors, there are only three shades available: Saddle (like our current double monks), Cognac (like our current Shortwings), and Burgundy (like Color 8). All three of these are reasonably in stock, so getting a mid-March to mid-April delivery should be totally realistic. Or course, things can change depending on how long it takes to finalize the order, but at the moment the pipeline is pretty clear.
I'm sure that everyone will be busy throughout the holidays, but if we can get a consensus on this by Jan 9th, then I can give them the order in person when I meet with them at Pitti, and we'll get it rolling out!
Navy Shell Jodphur Boots
For Navy shell, the skins have to be custom-ordered from Horween, which is going to add a delay onto it. The Navy Jodphur probably isn't realistic for Spring, but getting in the late summer for a Fall piece should be no problem at all. And as I mentioned before, the Navy shell makes up pretty dark, and quite close to black, so this can still be a pretty conservative and versatile boot. Even with the early Fall delivery, it's a pretty amazing turnaround for a specialty shell cordovan piece.
This is a nice choice - this shoe is STUNNING in person. From the customers who purchased our Double Monk's and Chukka's, we've had excellent feedback on the Inca last. I know from Carmina that it's an easy fit, and it still have a very sleek toe shape. As this shoe would be using European goods (calfskin or suede), it will be no problem to get an on-time delivery for this with an order placed the first or second week of January.
I'll get my leather swatch book on Friday, and I can post up images of all the calfskins and suedes that are available.
I'm still in for navy shell Jodhpur
Reposting now that there is shoe interest. Put the Salinger in caramel calfskin on the Rain last and do a 2 or 3 eyelet instead of the double monk
