How should a Doyle jacket fit? Should it feel like a sport coat or should it be looser than that? Mine feels like a 90s flannel shirt jacket. I ordered a 38, which is my suit size. I feel like I should size down for my next one. This was a Final Sale item so I probably cannot exchange it.

@philipneri it's up to your personal preference, but I think that the chest and shoulders look good on you. The overall shape is intended to be more relaxed than a tailored sportcoat.

The sleeves are definitely too long, but they're inexpensive and easy to tailor. You can also just unbutton and roll them back. That will give you a much better fit in the arms. And you can also have a tailor take in the rear center seam a bit if you want less room in the waist. That's also generally pretty inexpensive and quick with a garment like this.

Fall Cotton Cord Leader.jpg
MADE TO ORDER HERTLING TROUSERS FALL 18 CORDUROY & COTTONS

Hey dudes,

The fall cotton assortment for Hertling is live! Couple important points:

1) You can take 20% between now and Thurs 9/13 with code hertling20. Yields a really competitive price with that.

2) This promotional window only allows for stock shapes (no modifications). If you want something fully customized, we can do that for full price after next Thursday.

3) Hertling keeps a lot less inventory these days, so if you want one of the more popular fabrics (olive cord, brown cord, navy cord, gunmetal twill, olive twill, khaki drill, cotton-cashmere) then definitely order it sooner than later.

4) I'm going to send the orders in to Hertling at the end of every day. So the pants will be made first-come, first served. We typically take a LOT of orders on the final day of these promotions, but that's likely to cause a bottleneck with Hertling's smaller staff. So people ordering early might get their pants a lot faster than those ordering on the final day. So if you're sold on something, try to order sooner than later.

5) The Cotton-Cashmere is ludicrously good. Really, it's freaking amazing. If you don't own a pair, then treat yourself. No way we'd ever get within spitting distance of this price with Southwick. They do not have plans to restock it, so chances are we're going to sell everything that's on hand during this window.

6) All of these fabrics are on hand and ready to cut. We hit a delay with the REDA hopsack because it came out of the mill in Italy so late. Won't be an issue with these, the only lead time is going to be for the actual production. I'm confident on the turnaround window for these.

I found the Doyle fits quite loose and boxy. I'm considering having the waist taken in, although on the fence about keeping it as the sleeves are also on the short side for me.

If is the same fabric I got, I have to agree. It's a fantastic fabric. A bit wrinkle-prone, but so amazing.

@adelorenzo well it's going to depend on your body type, but the Doyle is actually pretty fitted on most of our customers. It's not as slim as a sportcoat, but it's definitely smaller than the usual chore coat. I'll be happy to weigh in on the fit if you want to post a photo or PM it to me.

@M635Guy yup, the same stuff!

@mothball amazing.. one of the best that we ever ran! I feel that's from like 2010 or so?!? Does it have the OG Epaulet tag with the "231 Smith Street" address on it?

This surprises me a bit b/c I haven’t had this experience at all. I suspect as mike pointed out that the difference is build but, frankly, I don’t think “boxy” has ever come to mind on any EP top I’ve ever owned.

It's not as slim as a sportcoat, but it's definitely smaller than the usual chore coat.
I think this is most accurate way to describe my experience. It’s certainly more trim than the few other chore coats I’ve tried... not the trimmers piece I’ve ever owned from EP though. For me, it’s a sweet spot

@Epaulet Thanks for the response. After wearing it a bit more and after measuring several of my clothing items, I agree with you that it fits right in my shoulders and chest. And yes, the sleeves are too long, but I expected that. Thanks for the tip about tailoring the rear center seam. Lastly, I was wondering how many of these Madras Doyle jackets did you end up making.

EDIT: Please ignore my last question. Your website clearly states that 15 were made.

One more co-sign for cash-co trousers. Buy them and love them. Definitely the best buy out there.

Secondary plug: Consider the lavender cords. I have the grape flannel from back in the day and you'd be amazed how good a soft purple color can actually look. If you wear any trousers that aren't blue, brown, or gray, you can pull these off.

I have been loving my Stingray trainers. I have tons of shoes that are all just begging to be worn, but I find myself reaching for the trainers more often than not. I don't even really like tennis shoes/sneakers most of the time. A definite surprise-- when I ordered them I wasn't sure if I'd ever wear them.

Went in on the natural wool coastal cardigan. When I saw that it was possible to dial in the sleeves, I was sold.

I ordered them on Friday and my Jungle pants are out for delivery! I'll be rushing them to the tailor tomorrow as I'm anxious to put them in the rotation. I bought the olive sateen and the khaki duck and see these being my go-to casual pants this fall.

@Epaulet - Regarding the Hertling Cords, can you tell me how wide the wale is? I watched the video but may have missed that. They look a bit wider than 8 wale, but it's hard to tell in the photos and video (wider is better IMO). Also, I'll give an endorsement for the yellow cords. They are an unsung hero in the fall and winter and go great with a lot of sportcoats with brown or deep blues in them, perfect to pair with a lot of the Harris Tweeds Epaulet has offered over the past few years. I already have a pair from another store but they're getting really well worn and I may use this as a chance to get a fresh pair.

@philipneri yup, we didn't make too many.. it ultimately wasn't all that popular. I probably should have heeded the 6th Commandment of Menswear Retail: "Thou Shalt Not Make Plaid Jackets Off The Rack (and expect them to sell through)"

@FLW this man tells the truth.. and we wears muted purple better than anyone I've seen. It's actually a really easy color to match and always looks boss.

@NorthCoast we're making about 12 units of open stock in that. Going to hold onto it for a week to allow preorder guys to exchange if needed, but we'll definitely have some for general sale.

@Blastwice awesome to hear, thanks for picking them up!

@Michigan Planner thank you sir! Excited to hear what you think about them

The cords are 11 wale, so pretty much the standard "corduroy pant" width. The Doyle preorder cord was the same scale. They're not super thin, it's a perfect weight IMO. Wide Wale is rad but gives off a more definitive dressy vibe, I like that these can do both.
