So from this thread, am I correct to assume that the newest batch of duck canvas Doyles (navy/olive) are a stiffer breed of material than the OG bunch that some had previously? Is it the weight or the weave of the material?

I was speaking about my navy and walnut duck canvas Doyles from last July.

do you care about fade, if you don't, then wash denim like any other regular clothe, just watch out you don't make other things "blueish" as well... if you do care about fade follow any of the instruction above... (cold/soak/hung dry blah blah)

My navy one from 9 months ago is wayyy stiffer than the first generation olive one from a couple years ago. I think the current navy is the same fabric I have, but I could be wrong.

Good news, I was able to soften it a bit with a vinegar bath. Bad news, it shrunk.

I initially expected this to be something about millennials eating Tide pods.

I use Mr. Black denim wash from Railcar Fine Goods, but anything without optical brighteners, bleach, or bleach alternatives should be fine.

I never thought about it before but that's how I wear them (or rather don't wear them) too! You just said it much more succinctly than I could.

The texture on that jacket is awesome. Which one was that?

Any update on when the Hertling trousers are going to ship? I ordered six pairs at the end of February...

Hey guys - what's the best way to get a bit of shrinkage out of the navy duck Doyle?

I have this one in 40 and would like it to be a bit smaller all around but not extreme. I was thinking cold wash and hot dry, but wonder if hot wash and air dry would be better?

Not sure on duck canvas in particular, but you can control shrink by pulling it out of the dryer periodically and checking it. Or not drying all the way.

    Hot wash you cannot

I'd avoid the dryer for dark denim. You can get weird creased fades like the below pic. now, the place i pulled the pic from says it's from the washer but... i don't believe it. I've never had issues like this and I machine wash + air dry all my denim. with that said, i have a washer with no center spindle, so ymmv.
