This is off topic, but if anyone has a Navy Melton Daltrey in size 42 that they want to get rid of, shoot me a PM. I always wanted that jacket.

As I understand it, this will be an indigo denim that is then dyed black during the manufacturing if the jeans themselves. Which means that as the black dye wears and fades you get blue showing through. Which I suppose also fades. Never handled any of this myself.

And I'm no denim head, but I have no problem with non-selvedge OD. I'm looking forward to that Wilshire release.

Not would I have any problem with non-selvedge green overdye. Just to bring that up casually, you know.

Exactly. And the OD process does three things:

    1) Denim typically has two colors - a colored warp thread and an undyed weft thread. That's why it has a two-tone appearance when viewed up close. So black denim still looks a bit dark greyish. When you overdye a jean, you place the finished garment into a dye batch, and both warp and weft become dyed a uniform color. So a black overdyed jean is JET black and extremely dark. Much darker than woven black denim.

    2) Overdyeing tends to make denim very soft and pliable. These jeans will feel entirely broken in and have a great hand.

    3) As Frank and Wade mentioned, the black dye will fade out with a ton of wear and reveal a mix of blue and grey underneath. However, I'll stress the TON of wear aspect of this. But if you work for it, you'll get a great and very unique fade on these. For those who don't care, you'll have a dark as hell black pair of badass jeans.

Yup. It would take some seriously strenuous wear to break through the OD. I would think non-selvedge makes sense as it's kind of a waste. May as well keep the price down as the benefit is almost non-existent here

Interesting to know that fading requires a lot of hard wear for OD.

Any pair I get will likely remain deep black then.

Been popping in here occasionally ever since I heard of the black jeans, but this thead moves way too fast to keep up. Is there an ETA for the black od jeans? Also denim jacket? Thanks.

I, for one, would pay $25 more for the selvedge OD. I think it's worth it.

That Kamigata looks amazing. And I'm intrigued by this upcoming leather jacket! Any word on what style it might be? I've been hunting for a leather jacket for a while but haven't found anything quite right yet.

Was in the Manhattan store when the sample denim jacket was around, and I concur. It's incredibly well made and well fitting. I am not a denim jacket person, but I'm sorely tempted by this one! It's pretty terrific.

Also re selvedge vs. non-selvedge for the OD denim: even super high end brands like Iron Heart will often use a non-selvedge denim for their OD jeans. I would probably pay the extra $25 for it, but at this price point I imagine a lot of others wouldn't. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

Same. Would pay for selvedge but not a dealbreaker.

Looking forward to that Rudy release on the denim, though... and the jackets sound phenomenal!

The EPLA Wilshire Jean 14 oz. White Kuroki Denim look awesome. Can you make those in a 38 or 40?
