I bit the bullet and bought it. The few available in Japan sold out right away. I was able to get a 10% discount but it was still real pricey. Will have to sell a few shirts to cover or rationalize the purchase hah

That is a sweet shirt. $$ though.

Jesus, $390 after tax for a button down?

Surely there’s a shirtmaker capable of making one for a bit less?

Definitely the most expensive shirt I own. Being in Canada, I didn’t have to pay taxes, and I’ll cross my fingers I don’t get hit with customs. Being embroidered material, I think the price is justified. The only way I could justify buying it though was to sell enough clothes to cover the costs. I’ll definitely get more wear out of this shirt than the things I’ve sold. And it’ll wear in real nice, which means it’ll have a home in my closet for a long time to come.

I think maybe it's time to accept the price hikes and cost of EG in general. It's never going to get cheaper.

You either kop at full price, or wait for sale time and risk not getting what you want. The way things are these days, retailers are continually discounting 10-40% throughout the year. So there's that as a consellation prize.

If we want EG to continue producing clothes, then ultimately we need to support the retailers who are stocking the gear. If it aint profitable for retailers, then the channels for EG to sell their wares diminishes (and drive up prices due to lower suppy).

Everyone from EG to retailers needs to make money!

I've been supporting EG since the early days and the costs have gotten prohibitive. So much for economies of scale.

EG's not a hype brand driving up prices because they want to sell logos. I have no issue with a price increase given the brand's reputation. Many popular or semi-popular brands have driven up prices pretty considerably over the past few years, whether due to greed or increasing labor costs depends on the brand. The patchwork stuff and heavier fabrics are going to come at a premium because of the work associated with buying supplies, sewing and constructing the garments themselves, and paying your workers fair wages. Sure, it sucks to have to pay more, but it may make people less inclined to buy on a whim and actually consider their purchases.

Anyone hear of Daiki and Keizo's new brand The Conspires? Took some bad photos of the latest Popeye magazine. Looks to me like a less gaudy Needles and cleaner silhouettes than EG.

This is just very odd. A shirt jumps to $400 — likely a 400% increase in as many years — and we are supposed to gravely consider the moral responsibility of the buyer to wear fewer clothes? I mean.... Dude. Please.

I doubt a concern over fair wages has lead to the recent and extreme price hikes, but even if we go with that, a 200, 300, 400 percent hike? No. This is greed fueled by illusion. Whether or not it’s a hype brand is immaterial.

This looks really interesting, thanks for sharing! Based on a google search I'm guessing there's not much info online or in English yet?
