It was a particularly bad ceremony, in terms of menswear. Patrick Dempsey did justly get some credit for wearing what he seems to wear yearly. (He'd probably get a Clooney level of credit if he were a frequent presenter or a better speaker.)
Jeremy Piven's grooming negated his attire. One could argue that Ryan Seacrest was right to dress a little non-traditionally as the host/jester. At least his clothes fit well.

It's so easy to do it right; but in trying to reinvent Hollywood, most men (and a lot of the women) only manage to muck it up. There's a Cary Grant retrospective on "On Demand" this month. One clip in particular shows Cary accepting his "Lifetime Achievement" award in the early 1970s. Cary will always be with us, in my opinion, because his style is timeless!

We can bump this one from last year for this year's broadcast. For starters: Jeremy Piven went from being the Tuxedo Textbook to looking like ass. How did he manage to go the whole night without someone saying "Fix your tie?" A lot of VERY narrow notch lapels, and Neil Partick Harris' teeny-tiny bowtie looked like he stole it from a Good Humor Man. I am also disappointed that John Hamm went the 4IH route, him setting the standard for classical elegance on TV lately.

Lawrence Fishburne looked like he was there to valet park your car. He wore black trousers and a red "tuxedo?" (question mark only on the word tuxedo).

Wasn't that William Peterson he was presenting with? Wearing a tux and t-shirt? What a joke.

Yeah, and full beard.

I like Colbert's lapel pin in the shape of his hallmark "C."

Did anyone notice the broadcast cut away from Colbert and Stewart while he was talking about prunes? Did someone make a hand gesture or something that they had to use the time delay to show a part of the back stage?

colbert has a contract with BB; they dress him from head to toe on his show, probably the same here.

I'm sick of all these hollywood types trying to look 'different' you want to look different? wear a well fitting tuxedo with a bow tie, peak lapels or shawl collar, satin or grossgrain, patent/calfskin plain toes or formal pump(my formal shoe of choice). Make sure it fits.

Long ties, notch lapels, strange styling, business suits, weird colors etc, just screams 'look at me' and makes me think of powder blue prom getups.

Tom Hanks wore a DB tux. That's both different and appropiate. Very nice.

Edit: hm, not on the red carpet apparently. Did he change outfits or am I looking at the wrong pics?

Jeff Probst lost his tie.

Oh wait, you mean he did that on purpose?

In the one photo I saw of Steve Martin, he looked to be wearing a rather classic, satin-faced peak lapel dinner jacket and bow-tie.

On the red carpet, tuxedoed David Boreanaz showed off his Paul Smith striped socks.

He was actually one of the better-dressed men there last night.
