Embroidered or printed designs on jeans: Are they cool?

I love printed and embroidered designs on jeans like the ones made by Yoropiko, Red Monkey and Mark Ecko but it's surprising why they are rarely seen. Is it because they are more expensive or their designs are just not cool enough? Would you wear a pair?

I have been seeing more jeans do this like South Pole, Deisel and Ed Hardy. I think some are cool but most of them go overboard like the one you show.

Better have a separate pair of embroidered jeans for every day of the week or, better yet, of the month.

Otherwise everyone you see, know, and love will get tired of your embroideries. Start buying!!!

Taken from this GQ article a few months back about the horrific idea of embroidering jeans:
"Jeans were designed to be tough and rugged—the epitome of cool," says Scott Morrison, the founder of Earnest Sewn. "They're not supposed to emanate femininity."
The men who made jeans an American icon wouldn't have been caught dead using denim fit for a Vegas showgirl to prove their potency. The laborers whom Levi's made the prototypical pair for in 1873. James Dean, who wore his out on the seat of a motorcycle. The Marlboro Man, whose jeans' only unnatural adornment was the worn spot from a pack of Reds. For guys like that, being a bad-ass wouldn't have involved wearing jeans adorned with embroidered Gothic crosses—getting tattoos of them would have been enough.

^ I agree with that article. Embroidery on jeans I believe only works for women.

Once, I saw a pair of jeans with red vinyl as the right back pocket. It was the grossest thing I had ever seen.

And if you were wondering why people don't wear them often, it's because it shows lack of taste. In other words, they're pretty ugly.

But how else can I show the people standing behind me that I am, in fact, the Lizard King?

When I first got into Japanese denim a few years ago I recall seeing some attractive design work on jean pockets. The problem is that since then the designs are getting more and more overdone, over the top and gaudy. They have moved away from a cool look to screaming for attention and tacky IMO.

Those jeans almost looks as stupid as the kid I saw yesterday with evisu jeans with a giant red seagull and elastic bands on the leg openings. Ridiculous!
