Hello all! This is my first post here. Am going to Hong Kong next month and would like to have a couple of suits and some shirts made. I know that this subject has been dealt with exhaustively, but I wonder whether you might be able to help with this specific query:

Edward Tam ( E. ITalian Shop No.117, 1/F, Regal Kowloon Hotel) was highly recommended in a blog which seems to know about clothes.

Have you had any experience or heard anything about him?

Many thanks in advance

I'm curious as well to see if anyone has had any experience with E. Italian tailors. I believe i read the same blog as the OP. I will be visiting HK at the beginning of August and I am looking to get a a suit made. As much as I would like to visit WW Chan its not in my budget since I am in the process of buying a house. Can anyone else recommend some other shops?

Stick with Chan, Yao or Yu - you won't go far wrong.

If you can't afford them then search this site - you will get names and opinions - this tailor is not commonly spoken of which it itself says volumes.

While I know this is a post from February, I feel I must contribute on the topic of Edward. He is the only tailor I will ever go to in HK. Hands down. From his knowledge of the craft to his breadth of understanding of international style, current trending, and draping of fabric for fit and finish on your exact spec; this man has the complete understanding and foundation of an expert tailor.

One of the reasons he's so low key in this world is simply because the bulk of his customers are familial rather than new business. I was referred to him by my friend Emil, who has had the bulk of his suits and many shirts crafted from Edward; moreover, Emil's father has been getting his suits and shirts tailored and made from Edward for the past 20 years. My personal experience with Edward has been perfect - simple and efficient. The first suit I had created for me in an expanse of three days from initial measuring. First fitting the next day and second fitting the day after that. From a theological stance, once could say that on "the third day there was suit." Two shirts accompanied that with the same perfect exactitude of the suit. Needless to say all of my suits after that have been made in a timely fashion with the same exacting level of detail as the first.

His suits regularly run for about $3500 - $4000 HKD depending on the luxury or simplicity of the fabric and he has access to an immense library and as always - if he doesn't have it he will find it. For shirting I believe you can get them for about $350 HKD and once he's done business with you the prices come down for his regular customers. His main goal is keeping your business and he clearly detests the tailors in the HK/Kowloon sector that are hell bent on cheap suiting without the long term relationship. I have a suit from Edward that has been with me for 5 years, he's tailored it in when I decided to lose some weight, but other than that the fabrication is flawless and his detailed oriented design shows through in every stitch and reinforcement. I always get my suit pants made in flat front and the his trousers are so on point that I commonly wear them as more classed up casual pants and they have stood up to wear and wear and wear.

I realize that this is a lengthy description but I feel that the most information given will allow you to fully understand the depth, detail, and care that Edward puts into every piece he creates. He works for you, for your business and for your happiness in his craft. Make sure you experience it first hand, and for whomever visits Edward in the second floor of the Regal Kowloon Hotel, please tell him that Mr. Comer gives his greetings. I hope this has been helpful for you! Take care!

I recently made two suits and two shirts at E. Italian tailors. I'm very satisfied with the results including the service. Edward was very friendly, knowledgeable, and offered excellent advice.

I've had suits made by three other tailors in Hong Kong at around the same price range but E. Italian was the best. With the other tailors, small mistakes usually occurred in the cutting and the fit. These were nothing horrendous, but they were noticeable enough that I needed to have alterations made. But Edward got it right the first time.

Highly recommended.

Edward made some shirts and pants for me this past winter.

I copied my WWChan shirts/pants with some slight modifications and the fit turned out very well.

For shirts, the cotton looks good/on par with the WWChan fabrics but they are significantly less soft. This was expected. Pants turned out really good but I wish I specified horn buttons as they came in plastic (although not a big deal as no one really sees them). Shirts had very thin MOP for an additional $50 HKD.

Construction wise: all the shirts I purchased have writing on the underside of the collars; not sure what happened there. They've mostly washed out and likely will fully wash out. QC needs some work: one of the button holes was still sewn shut on one of the shirts I received but I just cut it open. Lots of loose threads as well. For the price I paid, they were a good deal considering how well they fit.

Did you chose a more expensive fabric at WWChan? E.Italian has high end fabric, too. It's just more expensive. My shirts didn't have writing under the collar, or maybe it washed out already. Only had them cleaned twice so far.
Buttons are plastic and I can also confirm loose threads (in places where it doesn't matter much)
I am gonna see how the buttons last over the next 2 months. Then maybe order more from him.
