I think the leather grade and finish is equal, however EG seems to be a touch thicker.

In my judgement, C&J's have a heavier build with seemingly thicker leathers and definitely more stiffeners (heel), and slightly lower grade finishing. However the difference in finishing is only notable on close inspection (not visible in the wild).

Except for the C&J Weymouth; the leather on mine wore terribly (washed out in color, pronounced creasing), so I would avoid C&J wholecuts myself. I have no basis to judge whether it's idiosynchratic or systematic.

For the record I have 3 C&Js, ~8 EGs, and I am glad to have the C&Js.

And I still strongly recommend the C&Js if you're collection of proper leather shoes stands at zero.

thanks for sharing, my experience with C&J is rather different since I have the old models when they started their first retail store. Which C&J have you got?

On the basis of brand it seems I can't go wrong with either just a matter of principle which will be more worthwhile .
