I have a question and even if I know that there.s no definitive answer, I would like some entries about my interrogations.

I would like to get my first Galway. I tried them seriously in the 202 last. Fit was really great with thi medium socks. I liked the 202 last but I think 72 would be better for my use and style. I can’t try them easily but will order them online and return them if fitting is not right.

It’s all easy BUT I can’t find my size and don’t want to get the MTO route as it’s my first EG shoes.

I’m UK10.5 in 202 and found the boots I really want on last 72 but only size UK10 is available. I’ve read that 0.5 sizing down may work.

Here’s some infos about my shoes and boots if that helps:
(Feet with low arch but just a bit wider than usual but no need to get wider shoes)

Trickers Bourton 4444 last : U.K. 10: great fit
Trickers Stow 4497s last: UK10.5: good fit but very roomy
Viberg service boots 2030: 10.5 good fit but roomy at heel
Church’s consul 173: UK10.5 good fit but a bit snug in the toe box
Red Wing Iron Ranger US10.5: great fit (same with RW Moc toe)
John Lofgren M43: 10.5 good fit but generous
Alden Barrie; never get a good fit... us10.5e too snug in the toe box, us11e fine in the toebox but laces are impossible to get a secure fit

Any helps would be great, thanks!

I think you’d regret going for a 10.

If Gentleman’s Footwear has a Galway you like and you’re in the USA, talk to Steve Yoo. Alternatively, get in on a Galway pre-order that interests you.

I have both 202 and 72 in the same size and width. 202 fits perfectly. On the other hand there is plenty of space mainly in toe area with 72 last, so I can use thicker socks as well without any issues. Therefore I think 72 last in half size down might work well for you. I would give it a try considering that you can return them easily.

I have both. The width fits me the same in both lasts. The only area where there is more room in the 72 last is in the toe box. So I would advise not going down half a size but taking the same size on both lasts.

I think you are wise to be very careful about sizing. I have two pairs of EG, both 10.5, that fir great. Then I mistakenly ordered some Dovers, thought I had a 10.5 (stupid failure to catch my mistake) and after only a brief walkaround decided to keep them. Turns out they are a little too big. Too late to return them. Please don't make my mistake: whatever the size, wear them extensively on carpet until you are sure they fit. Then break them in gradually.

For the cost of a factory resole (£275) you can get EG to re-last your Dovers to a smaller width or size. There are limitations to what can be achieved and the Dovers’ pattern might be somewhat restrictive but it's worth a shot. You can call or email the Jermyn St store for more details.

Thanks a lot for all your kind advises. I think UK10 on 72 will probably be too small in length even if there’s a tiny chance it may work... I’ll probably order them as there’s free return if they don’t fit. I think there.s zero risk to try it.

Will keep you update! (Unfortunately I’m based in Europe and oddly, seems that there’s not a lot of shops that stock Galway in the 72 last here... would like to avoid MTO for my first pair of Green. Will certainly do it once I’ll be 100% sure of my size in the 72 last!)

If the Galway on the 72 are too small, will probably order them in the 202. Fortunately there’s Dennis and his great shop in The Netherlands and the Galway in country calf seems to be in stock most of the time but would like them in the 72 last as I found the 202 last a bit too nice and formal for the country calf and my taste/use.

Once again, thanks!

Hello,

can someone please help identify roughly from which years are these EG with that logo?

Thanks
