Funny @Shawnc mentioned Alden and cordovan just now. I've had a Ravello cordovan itch this past week. Whilst I don't like the fit of EG loafers on my feet, I sure as hell love the look of the Harrow.

Would it be too much to ask for Alden to allow EG access to the Van last and Ravello Cordovan? Use said last and cordovan color to make me a pair of cordovan loafers with a natural edge.

Being that's highly unlikely to occur in the nearest future (or any future), guess that's money saved for something else. 😊

Edit:
For those wondering what in the world that would look like

In this leather, same natural stitching (as in the picture), just a touch lighter sole edge color.

Shell pie crust is never going to happen, even if Alden & EG form some kind of strategic partnership.

Yup. I know this. Which only means I have to bring in a guy from another company. A three way trade for those baseball/basketball fans out there.

So yeah, likelihood of that shoe being made is the same likelihood of me stepping on Mars.

Hey Guys! Long time since I’ve posted here. Just wanted to ask your expert opinion on this Galway GMTO I just received.

They're Veldschoten(unsure of spelling) construction and I noticed the welt on one of the boots looks like it was pushed in or something and looks like it’s kind of warped. I’ve attached pictures of what I’m talking about to this comment. Is this something I should just let go or should I reach out to the retailer?

It looks like the sole and welt have been whacked with/dinted by something. Given the price, I would contact the retailer or Jermyn Street store and see what they can do...you should expect better.

It’ll take them forever to get a new pair out to you. Push for a partial credit to use on another pair. That would be my opinion.

I don’t know if you should give up that easily, the guys over at Ascot might be game to create another 🦄 😁

Looks bad. However if you look carefully, other EGs with veldt have the same dent but to a lesser degree and covered well with polish. In this case, they did a shoddy job of it. I would return them.

As the other guys have mentioned, nothing to worry about functionally (based on the picture there doesn't appear to be a puncture or stitch issue).
Aesthetically, I'd question how that possibly made it through QC.

Second time in a week or so I've now seen an issue with QC. Tisk tisk EG. 🤨

Thanks for all the responses guys. Just sent them an email inquiring about it. Plus I just found a second defect I didn’t even realize until I tried to lace them up just to test the fit!

It looks like the top speed hook on the right boot actually arrived bent inward so close to the leather it’s impossible to get the laces through the speed hook!!!

While annoying, that is easily remedied with tools at home. Nearly every pair of Alden’s I ever bought came with at least one annoyingly bent speed hook, but it was super easy to fix

Unfortunately, that is definitely to much to ask….
