Hello All. New here in this thread and would like to ask for help or suggestions. With Renovateur, this dark spot appeared on the vamp. Did it “eat up” the die exposing what is underneath the dye? Tried both both renomat and light brown saphir polish with no improvements. I understand that I can’t make darker leather lighter but not sure what the problem is and how to proceed. Your insights and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

This is massively subjective, and somewhat overstating the matter in my opinion.

I sit in both camps - I have one foot that is a largish size 8 and one that is a 7. All of my shoes are tight on one foot and loose on the other, objectively. Occasionally (with loafers) I’ll need an insole with the smaller foot, and I’ll also occasionally need to stretch a shoe on the larger.

The reality is though, that both are comfortable- because that’s what I’m used to - and I have no foot issues despite walking quite a lot.

"Massively subjective" well....considering the information about the effects of ill-fitting (too small or too large) shoes comes from 2 Bespoke shoemakers, 1 former very opinionated Bespoke shoemaker on this site (I'm sure you all know who that is), and my Podiatrist sister-in-law, I'd argue it is just subjective.
"Overstated" again I'll defer to the information I previously received.
Now TBF to your comment, it is still their opinion so we can certainly say subjective.

From personal experience, I can say that I haven't been as fortunate. When I purchased some roomier shoes, I had developed toe issues (big and middle toes) from my shoes consistently moving around and hitting the end of the toebox. Actually had to have the middle toe nail removed.
That you have not experienced any foot issues is great though. Lucky guy! ?

Lucky that I haven’t experienced any issues, unlucky that my feet are different sizes. I’d prefer to have the option of perfect fit, but not so much as I’d buy two pairs to get it.

Sorry to hear of your issues, losing a toenail doesn’t sound like a nice experience.

Let's just say having a nail removed and having your shoes moving around banging into said nail is a horrible combination. Fortunately, I do not have this problem any longer! Tighter shoes ?? .

Not sure how effortless it is through EG themselves, but an MTO order through Shoes of Stefan is easy breezy. They are extremely helpful and responsive (barring you want another pair of EGs that is).
Fwiw, they sell another brand's shoes which are just as good if not better (from a craftsmanship perspective) than EG.

I think another consideration is how bony (or put less euphemistically, how fat) your feet can change your perspective on such things. Due to the rona I have gained a good 20 lbs of what is undoubtedly all fat. My shoes feel tighter but not uncomfortably so because it's basically all cushioning that can be easily deformed. The same tightness of shoe when I am relatively lean would be actually discomfortable.

I was wearing these Ventnors when shopping the other day. Thought of getting some other shoes, but they just paled in comparison, so I didn't get anything. You guys ever have that experience?

I've gained half a size + with a ten kilo weight gain myself. Looking back at pictures from 2013 and 14, I used to be pretty skinny. Turned 33 a few weeks ago. Will try to stay where I'm at, at the very least ?
Too expensive to update the shoe wardrobe now.

Firstly that’s a beautiful pair of Harrogates, congratulations. Renovateur in moisturising the leather can bring to light a spot where leather has been burnished. That’s why is restores the original look of shoes. I think that small mark is where a burnishing mop has slipped a little. IMO it’s nothing to worry about and adds to the character of the shoes. I’m afraid that if I’m right there is not much you can do about it if you want to keep the current colour. If it was very bothersome you could darken the grain leather with polish over time and that would hide the mark.

I’ve never tried it to be honest. But if they were mine I’d leave well alone and enjoy the shoes as they are. Seems like you’re taking good care of them?
