How do you find the 82 last compare to the 202?

I'm afraid I only have one pair of Edward Greens, so I can't compare them that much. As embarrassing as that is, when I went to get fitted before I purchased, they were like: oh, 82, that's what you want - your feet are just too wide for the other lasts.

So in that sense, I find them very comfortable!

Yup I intend to wear the harrogate (dark oak+Mink suede) with tailored cuff pant but I am unsure this is best with wool pant? Cotten pant? Linen Pant? What are some of the colour pants that best matches with this correspondent shoe? First time wearing such two tone shoes therefore wouldn’t want to grab too much attention.. therefore would like to ask what do you all normally wear such shoes for?

I only wear them in fall and winter, typically with flannel trousers and a sportcoat. They are a bit too elegant to pair with jeans, and probably any cotton trouser

That’s odd, 82 is one of their more narrow lasts, certainly narrower than their other very common last, 202.

...Lol. Well, perhaps I was fitted really stupidly then. I will try the 202 next time I can be in the presence of some Edward Greens in the flesh aside from my own!

Hey guys, need some quick advice. i have found an opportunity to trade my 9/9.5 Harogate for a 9.5/10 which is more my natural size. A friend if mine let me try on his Inverness he hasn't worn out much and I'm having these sizing issues.

9.5/10

- heel is loose on the Inverness
- slip up is larger, more room if wearing thin socks.
- feels alittle long while walking, unsure if breakin would remove that in a 10 US Harogate.
- Could stretch more if I size too large

9/9.5

- Feels snug, no pain, however feels alittle uncomfortable on my nerves. (i'm a young guy so maybe it'll go away)
- not much heel slip, heel feels perfect and shaft doesn't have excess leather.
- Fits with dress - medium weight dress socks.
- Heel slip makes me concerned as shouldn't it have heel slip?
- worried I break them in and they don't mold, even though 9.5/10 feels alittle larger wearing dress socks with.
- toes aren't crushed but definitely snug
- How much stretch to expect?

Basically I don't have any expereince with EGs and how they break in. Best to go with the smaller size to wear with dress socks or better to go with a larger size and risk it stretching too much. I have that happen with misized Ref Wings 0.5 too big or long.

What do you mean by "uncomfortable on my nerves"

Just like a slight sensitivity, not pain, just some slight aching, but no pain after ttying on. I'd figured it could go away as the ball of the foot would stretch. I think my photos shoe my foot lines up properly?

Nobody can really assess fit other than you. Generally, the toe box is not going to stretch so if the toe box is uncomfortably snug that would be very suboptimal on the smaller pair. Not sure what you mean regarding discomfort with your nerves.

On both pairs you should assess the flex point of the shoe, which should be at the widest part of the sole. A shoe with an elongated toe can sometimes feel long even though the fit is correct. On the other hand, sometimes you buy a shoe that is just too long like the EB chukka that I just bought and put back in the box within 5 seconds since it was obviously too long even though the fit was otherwise pretty good.

Heel slip can be hard to judge since it tends to improve a little once the sole breaks in. If the overall fit is good and the flex point is good I wouldn't be super worried about a little bit of heel slip on a brand new shoe. If there is a ton of heel slip that would not be great but probably better than a toe box that is too tight, all things considered.

Overall, for shoes of this cost, it's really best to not force the fit. It might just not be a good last for you or it might be that you need to play with the length and width.

It's not really the toe box, hard to place. Like there's enough room in the 9/9.5 but my big toe curls alittle. Didn't happen on the pair of AE I have but it did on a pair of C&Js and it solved itself.

How would you say they break in? Could be because the sole is stiff there's less flexibility.

I wrote my last note before briefly glancing at your images. The heel of the larger pair looks quite large, to be honest with you. Also, if your finger in the below pic is meant to represent your big toe joint then the shoe is almost certainly too long. Not quite sure what you mean by your big toe curling. Do you mean there isnt enough vertical space above your big toe? Or do you mean that the inner toe box is tapering too quickly and putting pressure on the outside of your big toe?

I very much appreciate the help as I can't get to Leffot easily and there's no NJ stores that carry them to try on.

I reworled the lacing on the inverness and took photis of the toe markings from trying them on.

I just tried the Harogates on again with thicker socks. Like, they're fitted but not too tight. Like ny left toe is grazing the toe box alittle but isn't tight or painful. My toes feel like they can't relax 100%, moreso at 90, so maybe it's a vertical issue. If the toebox was too small I'd imagine it would be painful instead of not 100% comfortable.

I actually only spent $360 on these so it's not like I spent $700+ luckily.

It mostly feels like too much volume on top of the shoe on the Inverness. My toe ends at the medallion swirl at the harrogate,

Looks like the 888 last isn't for you. Both sizes appear to have too much volume. Seems like you need something with a smaller instep and larger toe box

I think @jischwar is giving you the correct advice.

Thanks - interesting to know. I have E-202 and it seems a bit tight in the toe box. I am waiting on a pair of F-202 which might suit my feet better, but if 82 is more accommodating then I think I’ll go for that next time.

The width of my feet is focused in the toe box. I have in some sense V shaped feet - my feet are widest at the toes, much narrower at the heels. My width requirement is near the toes as the most essential for me to feel I have a comfortable fit, as I do not like my toes cramped. As such, the 82 last twas recommended as it offered me that, and indeed, I felt no discomfort.

Amusingly, my shoes felt more cramped than the-in-store shoe when I purchased them and had to get them slightly stretched, which worked fine as EG's calfskin is beautiful and easy to stretch.
