Off to Doublemonk, it is, then!
Double Monk's pricing is okay when you consider GST duties and brokerage is about 20 percent. Before COVID the price was very similar to US pricing (not even account for tax either). Plus you get to try on the shoes.

Service seems a bit hit and miss depending on how much they like you I guess.

FYI they can pull stock from the Jermyn St store for no upcharge if you see a makeup that they don't stock.

Does any one have experience wearing EG's dark brown London grain oxfords? Curious to know how this leather wears over time.

I have a pair of Piccadilly in this leather and I love them. Slightly softer than their calf but not soft. I’ve only had them for a year and wear them in medium sized rotation but I suspect I’ll get decades out of them.

I stumbled upon the sale this morning and pulled the trigger on a pair of Shannon in redwood. Unlike prior sales, never received an email from EG.

A pair of balmoral boots, Shannon or G&G Canterbury or EB GMTO, was on my wishlist for the year. Both excited and nervous to have given in and made a purchase relatively early in the year.

What a beauty, love the boot and photography

Ordered the same boot and looking forward to receive it.

Good choice!

I'm having EG install toe plates (lulu tips) on my pair before they ship the boots to me. Lot less hassle than shipping the boots to a competent cobbler (none in Atlanta area that I'm aware of). EG's price (£45) is very reasonable too.

I must say, I have never had a good experience with Double Monk. Always found the staff quite unhelpful if they didn't think you were going to buy a pair of shoes there and then. The prices for a lot of their stock (belts, umbrellas, shoe care etc.) are also pretty high. It's the shame they are Australia's only EG retailer because it's meant that I have taken my business online...

Always found Chris, Charles and Ben highly engaging, courteous and rather charming. And observing their style, found them quite the opposite from your description - not to say that they are infallible, of course.

In all fairness I live in Sydney - have only dealt with the Melbourne staff online.

I believe he is, though I can’t say I’ve been back to the store recently.
Ah. Is Sasha, of whom i never warmed up to, still running things up there?

He is not. Tom is now. I've always found Tom to be much more personable. My personal rule is that if it's less than 10 percent cheaper I'll go local since often times that just GST and I don't mind supporting local business. But when it crosses over 20 percent for the exact same product I'm going to go with the cheaper option.

Furniture Tom (from Melbourne), or the young blonde thing whom I forget if he is a Tom?
