Just stopped by brooks brothers at the mall by me NC to see about ordering a pair of Galway. Completely happy to pay half up front or whatever. To try to figure out fit. The lady said " they don't carry anything made by anybody only Brooks Bothers and that I should try johnston murphy"

Sounds like she is new. Typically they'll ship whatever they don't have to the local store so you can try them on. You could have them even ship a couple of different sizes if they have them in stock. They'll typically do this without charging anything up-front, and in turn only charge it if you decide to buy them.

You should have had her bring up the web site and you could have pointed them out to her.

Roger, am I correct in assuming those were ordered in that original shade to be as neutral a color as possible for this project?

iirc, that pair was discounted and rogerP bought them with the intent to make the darker? brilliant idea and better results than i expected

@dddrees I've Seen her there a few times. In her 60s dressed very nice. There is another Brooks Brothers maybe 20 minutes away, I may try there over the weekend.

It's also possible that store doesn't get many requests for Edward Green shoes. Anyway, next time I'd just refer them to the website and show them where they are located.

That's it in a nutshell. The original Maple colour did not appeal to me at all, but having (then) just read about Mr. Nurulaeff's work on @Handmadeshoes blog, it struck me that this pale shade would make an excellent blank canvas for a custom job. As the people at Skoak were also interested in seeing his work first hand ( and generally because they are extremely helpful to their customers) they handled the shipping to and from Italy and I handled the communication with Mr. Nurulaeff about what I had in mind.

He did an amazing job. There is so much subtle variation in shading that is not captured in pics. Depending on the lighting, different shades either rise to prominence or recede. Very cool stuff.

There are many BB SA's that are clueless about such things.

All quarterbacked by the good peeps at Skoak. It was a fun project and I am pretty tickled with the results.
Glad to be of help. It was after this that I decided we should do a colab with Dandy Shoe Care. Love Alexander's stuff, the guy is so friendly too. He looks kindy burly in the few pics I have seen of him before meeting him so I was pleasantly surprised that he has such a warm and friendly personality. The guy seems to smile all the time, great positive energy.
