^ and I realize it's blasphemy on this thread, but the JL is a better shoe. I realize the price is also reflective.

    Congrats.

How would you compare the fit of these two?

Also if you could compare the leather and finish as well. I am looking for either a chelsea in black calf 82 vs. JL beckett.

Is there a reason why your JL comparative model wouldn't be a captoe (straight tip)? Just curious ....

The City II comes to mind.

Idk I like the look of the beckett, I also believe the city is not part of the prestige line.

The EG 202 (UK9.5E) is roomier than the JL 7000 (UK9E), yet the 7000 is surprisingly comfortable for how sleek it is. The Lobb finishing and leather quality is a cut above what is already a very high level in the EG - you feel it when you hold the shoe. And the JL has a strange floating feel when I walk on it, perhaps somehow due to the outsole characteritics. Not sure how to explain that one. Love both, however.

Thanks for the comparison, and from the one JL that I have it's no surprise to me that the leather would seem a bit better. I also would actually anticipate that the JL 7000 would be sleeker when compared to the EG 202. However I wonder how it compares to the EG 82. I would think these two might be a bit closer perhaps.

I do have a pair of Doak Chelsea, however I never thought it was a good idea to burn the cash on a pair in Black version .. Always thought CJ Connaught are good enough for a plain black oxford and save the difference for more doak EGs ..

For me there's certainly and added appeal with the Doak color, but the shoe I chose whether Dock or not should stand on it's own merit as well. Besides I do find some of C&J Lasts not quite as appealing to the eye and my foot.

I do have several pairs on both the 82 and 7000, and you are indeed correct in that these two are much more comparable

So would you be willing to say if one wore an E on the 82 for the most part one could expect to wear an E on the 7000 in the same size?
