Do any of the shoes have a batch number sub 100.000? If so, that could explain some of what you have been experiencing. Somewhere around the 100.000 mark, E.G. shifted away from the usage of wooden lasts over to resin lasts, because the wooden lasts were prone to shrinkage over time due to wood being a natural product and it presumably also being exposed to moisture during the shoe making process. This shrinkage of the lasts lead to some inconsistencies in sizing. Resin lasts however should be immune to shrinkage, so the thought was that from the introduction of the resin lasts on, sizing should pretty much have remained consistent, especially within the same last and size.

If I recall correctly, the switch from wood to resin lasts took place around 2015.

At the time many E.G. wearers claimed that while remaining on the same last and size, shoes that were made on the resin lasts, felt about half a size larger compared to ones that were made on the wooden lasts. Some actually were of the opinion that sizing down half a size was merited. I however, was able to remain on the same size as always and did find the new lasts to deliver overall a more consistent sizing compared to what I was used to on wood and the shoes were just a tad more roomy than what I was used to.
Thanks. All of my shoes were purchased in last 5 yrs with batch numbers above 100.000, so that wouldn't necessarily explain what I am experiencing. I do think it could be related to differences between the lasts, as it was suggested that for an MTO they could have those made on the same last of a shoe that fits me well. Upon further inquiry, it seems the factory can't tell which last down to that level of detail.

I've had that issue, several times. Some shoes are smaller than others, largely in length, which has been a problem for me, especially with loafers. I think the person operating the lasting machine is having trouble. :) The guys have been really good in resolving any issues, I've had to have one pair of shoes re-lasted for example. I've come to see it as a fact of life when buying EG at the moment, no real way to avoid it.

Yeah. It's unfortunate and hopefully resolved soon. Would be much more tolerable if I was local and just a matter of trying on a few pair in store. I've had similar issue with tailors. As the old guard retires, seems it takes a while to get new ones trained up. Hopefully there remains enough interest in these skilled trades to keep high quality up.

Cleaned up these EG for RLPL today. Got them for a song on eBay (seller clearly didn't know their Northampton provenance); they are on the 89 last which I believe was an RLPL-specific last and is no longer in use.

Interesting, what did you like more about the mahogany than the rosewood?
I like the fact that Mahogany has reddish undertones but is still a neutral and year-round versatile color. I'll also add my sentiment is based on the Galway I've sold. In person I found the color and leather simply spectacular on that pair. The Mahogany CC on my Nevis feels less supple and the color less vibrant.

Recently purchased EG Leith waxed suede, storm. Last
202E is usually a comfortable fit across many EG shoes/ boots. In a few months time the Lanark chukka in coal waxed suede will be available. That will complete my EG waxed suede footwear for now. View attachment 2329585

I really like these. I have my eye on the same pair in khaki waxed suede.
