Rosewood CC Galway. Color comes out in these pics a bit darker than real life

What do people think is the last and sole for the Galway that best bridges casual and dress? I was looking at the 202 in mink suede although that's sold out in my size now. Looking at other in stock options, what do people think of the 82 on dainite / double rubber vs. 303 on ridgeway?

Here's a very smart looking Galway with cordovan on 82 last. Too dressy for jeans (think selvedge, heavier weight, mild taper only)?

And more casual Galway on 303 with Ridgeway. Too chunky of sole for dress trousers?

Realize leather option is another factor here as well.

82 last is extremely dressy and I've come to sort of resent my MTO Galway for being in it. I have the Newmarket in 303 and it's a much nicer middleground last for boots.

Yeah that's my concern with the 82. I think the 303 sounds great on the Galway but not sure I love the Ridgeway sole, wonder if it makes it too much of an inclement weather and casual boot.

I don't know what circles you travel in, but most people barely notice the shoe uppers, let alone what sole they come on!

Ridgeway is practical and virtually indestructible, and I think a good counterbalance to the chunkier 303 last. Slim rubber soles would look out of place.

Yeah I agree, my question is is it just a casual boot then. Galway can obviously span spectrum of formality and wanted to try and be somewhere in the middle.

The 202 on Dainite is my choice for a dressy casual Galway.

I would generally agree 202 on dainite is best able to bridge the dressy to casual spectrum, and if this is your goal would suggest to wait until it's in stock.
If you're trigger happy, 82 w/dainite can work in a pinch but as pointed out it is definitely sleeker. I have 82 & dainite Rosewood CC Galways and regularly pair with jeans similar to those you describe. So long as your denim is reasonably well proportioned and of moderate leg opening width (nothing overly wide) you'll be fine.
Suede, cordovan or a Utah material each lend themselves well to flexing between dressy and casual.

Nice! I had wanted to order the Cranleigh and Galway both on 202 in mink suede and then pick which one I liked better, but I just ordered the Cranleigh in that and Galway on 64 walnut country calf which is on sale. I know that won't be dressy but wanted to try it out at least and have something to pick between!

The 64 last is just perfect for the style, as well as the original one. I have the Galway in Rosewood Country Calf on it.
