This unusual derby looks completely legitimate. It’s likely a sample or from a small special order run.

Edward Green has produced oxfords and derbies with this brogue pattern in the 90s and/or earlier 2000s. I have seen versions of this type of shoe in person and also popping up on eBay.

Here is a link to a similar Oxford with that brogue pattern: https://theshoesnobblog.com/i-love-edward-greenand-you-should-too/

If you like them, buy them. The price seems rather attractive. Cheers and good luck!
Thank you!

Thanks for the heads up... I see a Galway on sale in my size. Been wanting one for quite awhile...Unfortunately the timing is quite poor as most of the budget will have to go to our upcoming trip to China ..:censored:

There's always a poorly timed sale in which something on offer is quite tempting. Last week it was Dinkelacker. Funny thing is that should I find a pair I like while on vacation, I'll be free to buy them. If I got those Gaiways before hand there would be holy hell to pay with the wife 😅😅😅. I've bought 7 pairs since March so I'll be a good boy..for now. 🤪

Always! I'm eyeing like 3-4 different pairs right now and then this one comes up...

Where would you get replacement laces for your EGs?
Just buy nice laces anywhere. I am pretty sure EG is not making laces - they are just buying them from someone else. If your shoes are oxfords, consider fine flat laces - they look great in such a shoe. AFPOS in the UK always sold wonderful flat laces for a very nice price.

Dear all,
I have acquired an old pair of what i think are Cadagon's, on the 202 last in what looks to be a 'chestnutty' shade paler than burnt oak (anyone any ideas?) at what i thought was a reasonable price.
The leather looks to be in rather poor condition, particularly around the vamp and along the sides, as if it's dried out. It almost looks like a layer on top has cracked, a little like bookbinder after numerous years, although I'm sure this can't be the case. Can members suggest how i might treat this, and/or if it might in fact be a bigger problem than merely rehydrating/polishing?
Many thanks indeed.

Leather seems to be in ok condition with no cuts or holes so I would start with some Saphir leather cleaner then renovateuer and shoe cream/polish.

Thank you, that's reassuring. How did it get like this though? I'm not great at upkeep (very occasional Saphir creme and/or Venetian Shoe Cream), but none of my EGs ended up looking this rough, even the far older ones.
