great, many thanks
A lot of questions, I know. But those boots are just so impressive; I can't stop thinking about them! How sad to think they are virtually unobtainable... What goes G&G do that is similar?
What size should I go about trying on in EG if my regular shoe size is a TTS 10EEE. I understanding sizing is different in each shoe company, but I don't have means of going to a store to try on different lasts and find my exact sizing per last. Any recommendations to those who have wider feet and fit a good EG last comfortably in the toe box area.
No no, the Galway is certainly obtainable, it is just the full double leather sole (instead of the "HAF" sole) with the full lining which is not easily obtainable.
Which last do you prefer?
As a wide fit I would go for their 9.5F202 and, if you are after the Galway boot, I would go for the UK 9 or 9.5 M64, which is a really generous last.
In 82 or 888 lasts the 9.5 F fit would be generally ok as a wild guess. Nothing is better than actually trying the shoes on first though, so just keep that in mind.
After reading through that, I feel like I desperately need a pair of Galway boots. George Bass in Nola insists that their relationship with the MTO program with EG hasn't changed. I think I need to take a trip down there and put that to the test.
If George Bass does talk EG into a fully lined double leather Galway, please tell me because i will add to your order and maybe get a quantity discount for both of us.
I'll let you know. George Bass claims they're the oldest continual EG account in the US so they get special treatment. I have no idea if that's true, but it's worth a shot either way.
those prices make you want to take a trip to northampton? why not just shop the RL sale?
I can hit AS and C&J along the way
I've never been to Northampton and wouldn't mind checking one of the factories out sometime in the next few years.
Although the Mansion is a few blocks from me, unfortunately my size is usually limited (6.5/7) and with NYC tax it adds up.
Ah, I see. So the calf/pebble combination is still one that EG will make?
Can I also re-ask my questions (in bold) from earlier, quoting your post, LeJouvre:
" 888 needs to be fully lined because 888 is typically a last for a city shoe.
For the ignorant among us (me), could you elaborate on this? Is lining just a comfort thing?
Looks like neither of those two boots has the full double sole, at best you will find the "HAF" sole, which is not bad.\
What is the advantage of the full double sole over the HAF? And what is an "M64"??? "
I was there on Thurday - those were the most common sizes that I found while there.
For my wallets sake im a 10.5
Can you clarify which piece of this they refuse to make now? I've had no trouble getting Galways in various leather combinations with a double leather sole. What do you mean by full lining? As opposed to what?
JD, the Galway that leffot stocks has an unlined pebble grain shaft. I think thats what LJ is referring to.
Separate names with a comma.
