Wondering if someone who has tried both lasts could advise me on the differences in fit between these two lasts.

I have an 888 from RL, I think, and a pair of vintage Wildsmiths by EG on the 32. I think the 888 is narrower and more elongated. Reminiscent of the C&J 337 last, although not as drastic, in my opinion.

The 32 is a more rounded toe - roomier in the toe box for me although not as rounded or "stubby" as the 202.

I will doublecheck when I get home tonight.

PhiloVance is right. The 32 last predates the 202 last - both being round toed lasts. The 888 is a mildly chisled toe last and has snugger fitting properties than the 202. I've never tried a 32 last on but from what I've been told imagine it fits similarly to the 202.

I have one pair of EG made in the mid-80s on the 32 last for Degant in Brussels.

I would say, the 32 last is maybe 1/4 size smaller than the 202, both in length and particular in depth (top to bottom). If your foot is shallow, that might be a good thing; otherwise stay well clear.

At present, last 32 is only available for special orders (some Japanese stores place orders with that particular last).

According to the EG rep I contacted the 32 and the 888 are very similar if not identical in fit, the only difference lying in the shape of the toe box.

+1. This is a more articulate version of what I was trying to get at.

Isn't that an oxymoron?
