I have several shoes in varying shades of brown that have non-black leather soles. Living in Boston, and more specifically in my neighborhood, I do a lot of walking on cobblestone or uneven brick surfaces. Needless to say, my soles tend get scuffed at the toe. In the past, when I cared less about my shoes, I just blackened the soles with edge dressing. Now I'm more concerned with preserving the original color.
