Ok, which of these two watches do you like better? Reasons? Suggestions for a similar watch - somewhat non-dressy, square/rectangle, non-metal bracelet, deployant clasp (need not be chrono) in the 12-1500 range?

Ebel on the left; B+M on the right

My vote is for the Baume. The Baume case design is overall more sporty, which goes better with the rubber strap than the relatively more traditional design of the Ebel.

The Tag is great - although I like the Monza even better. The problem is that even a used Tag is pretty expensive. And, while I don't have a problem with a used watch, you need to budget in several hundred dollars for a service on a used automatic (says the guy who just paid $700 to service my Rolex). The Ebel or BM are 1500ish brand new, authorized dealer, warranty, etc.

Another vote for the Baume.

There is just something that feels "off" to me about the proportions of the Ebel. Can't explain why.

Well, Rolex service tends to be on the high side - but, budget is always the problem. good luck! (For what it's worth, I like the B&M better - less clunky.)

i saw a nice automatic square tissot quite recently. might be a little too big for you though since i seem to remember you asking about smaller watch suggestions similar to the baume and mercier. this hamilton is nice. i know oris made a square watch as well. forget which musician it was.
