eBay seller has banned me - fair or not

I recently bought a few shirts from a prominent eBay seller who appears to be blowing through a lot of high-end inventory. I won't name names unless the consensus is they are a bad actor.

Anyway shirts were as described and good deals. No problems with the merchandise. But it took quite a bit of time to receive them and contrary to the seller's posting no tracking number was sent. I wrote them a note and asked for a tracking number, nada, got nothing back. After 2 weeks the stuff showed and all was good. I left a neutral feedback for not answering a question or providing a tracking number but stated that the merchandise was as expected.

Well the seller has now blocked me and that is sad because they have some tasty, tasty stuff going on.

Is that fair, it seems like extortion to me? My demands/questions weren't unreasonable, my feedback was fair. Anyway, I'm po'ed about it because I'm about to miss out on a great Brunello Cucinelli Jacket...

Why wouldn't it be fair? It's a free market, he can pick and choose his potential buyers. It might not be financially wise, as he's giving up potential bidders, but if he's decided you're too much of a pain in the neck to deal with (note, I'm not saying you are, just that he may have reached that conclusion), he's within his rights to cut you off.

maybe he did not like your anal way of handling his no response. i sometimes dont answer a barrage of ebay emails as well, but it aint a big thing to them, they all leave a positive feedback. if you left me a neutral, i wouldnt block you, but i would think you a d**k or a little man. this is his way of responding to it. i guess. so what.

Does the seller have a lot of things for sale? Maybe he was swamped with questions and didn't have time to answer. That would also explain the delay in shipping. You need to realize a lot of eBay accounts are one-man opperations. If your merchandise arrived as described and it didn't take a month to get it, leave a positive. You can mark his shipping time/costs and other stuff on the little star system they have and remain anonymous. With that said, I can understand why he blocked you.

Interesting responses. Thanks for that.

Agree with the free market comments, they have every right to do so, but I was surprised as its not happened before. Positive feedback for mediocre customer service from now on. Lesson learned.

Anal, small man, d*ck? That does seem a bit out there. All I asked was a single question, 7 days after the auction ended to figure out if maybe the **** hadn't shipped or gotten lost or something like that. Maybe you take your customer service tips from the Soup Nazi?

Every seller encounters buyers that are just too much trouble, and they end up on eBay block lists.

Now, I'm not actually saying the OP is one of those buyers. It certainly doesn't sound like it, based on his version of events, and if that version is true, the seller should have provided the tracking number he promised, which would have averted the saga.

But different sellers have different tolerance levels and getting a neutral for providing goods that actually met your expectation, and within a reasonable timeframe of 2 weeks (if this was an international transaction), would be a bit annoying for the seller (you never know, he might have been away on vacation and so not answered your follow up emails after the items were sent out). As a result, they've concluded that you're a high risk for potentially giving them an unreasonable neg in the future, and they've blocked you. They're entitled to do that - sellers are under no obligation to sell to you.

In this case, it's probably an unfortunate situation for both parties (seller loses out on a bidder; buyer loses out on a deal), but sometimes misunderstandings happen, and the seller is playing safe with you.

Fair enough. Anal for rating neutral, not asking a question, I misunderstood.

Its not like I got a mediocre blow job that I was hoping would improve on the second go round and thus wanted to give positive reinforcement and an enthusiastic thumbs-up. I rated neutral meaning I hold no real opinion one way or the other and I tend to be honest.

This is in response to sho'nuff not Holdfast who actually gave a reasoned response.

And if you want my eBay id no problem, PM me and I'd be happy to give it to you so you can block me going forward.

No problems with that but you should have just not left feedback. If I feel it deserved neutral then I just by-pass leaving feedback. But I agree that he should have left in his description that the shipping may take a few weeks. Alot of Ebay buyers expect service as if they bought online from a high end retailer and that is not the case with Ebay.
