Ebay Live Auctions? How does it work?

Ok, there's a ton of crap I want to buy that's on these live auction things? How do they work? Has anyone done them?

Obviously you can do an absantee bid.

But what about the live thing? Evidently you can somehow bid live on your computer? How does this work, you just got to the item's page and all of a sudden it's a live auction?

And all the auction lots in the same live auction say they end at the same time. But clearly that is not the case, so how do you know what is going to be auctioned when?

Thanks,
Z

The ones I've participated in have operated very much like a chatroom, with scrolling live text. Item comes up, bids are taken, bidding closes, next item opens -- all in a very short span. Blink and you miss it.

Usually there is an auction catalogue, and the items are auctioned in the order listed. As such, you just have to keep an eye out for your item.

and all that shows up on the page where the item is listed?

Sounds like the thing to do is just to put in your absentee bid as high as you're willing to go.

It was too late to do the absantee, so I did the regular bidding. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell when the auctions actually start for real - this one started much earlier than when Ebay said the item ended, and as a result I missed a bunch of items I wanted. However, I did get there in time to bid "live" and get a few I wanted.
