Ebay freezing paypal account?

I was wondering if some of the more seasoned ebay sellers could answer a question for me. Recently my sister sold an item on ebay. No big shakes, it was an old transistor radio that went for 100 dollars. Upon the sale of the item she received an email from paypal that her account had been frozen for 21 days to protect the buyer and the seller, and that she must ship the item immediately. Is this something new from paypal or do they do this periodically?

The account is not frozen, but the payment is on hold. This can occur to sellers with a score less than 100 and items over $100. Tell your sis to ship the item using a paypal label and ask the buyer to leave feedback as soon as the item is received. Once the item has been delivered OR the buyers leaves positive feedback, the hold will be released after 24 hours.

What is a Paypal label? Are the bastards squeezing even more out of sellers. Wouldn't a USPS delivery confirmation # work for an item under $249.95 or would it not?

This happened to me even though I have a score of 100%. Item was delivered and 2-3 days later the hold was released. Ended up being more like 7 days, versus 21.

You can buy a USPS label through paypal for about the same price as going through the post office, but paypal may be a bit more expensive. If your sister chooses not to buy the paypal label, she can upload the USPS tracking info and the hold should still be taken off her account 24 hours after the item is delivered.

Actually, shipping rate through paypal is a tad lower than retail rate (one pays at the postal counter). And delivery confirmation is free. More convienently, purchasing/printing USPS shipping label is integrated into paypal system.

What about weighing a package? How do you know the weight of the package? Does everyone own a scale or something?

I normally just make an educated guess. Most shoes weigh about 4-6 pounds packaged. I've never had a problem yet. Best to err on the high side though.

I've had this happen, though not in this particular circumstance. A buyer claimed he never recieved merchandise from me (stupid me, I didn't use DC. I use Delivery Confirmation all the time now to keep one steap ahead of these scamming bastards) and reported it to paypal and they put a hold on the $ until I responded to the dispute.

I'd be very irritated if I were in the position of your sister, though I do recall reading something about this in one of eBays stupid-ass policy revision newsletters. Honestly, I'm at the end of my rope with eBay. They recently restricted my selling of clothing items and I sent them an email 3 times. The fourth time I showed obvious anger and told them that I am unemployed and this is my only income source at this time. They gave in and upped my selling limit. So it takes them to have to have pity for me to let me sell clothing again? Ridiculous.....

I have a small scale. Oftentimes, I just make an educated guess to save the troubles. Since most of my stuff are shipped via priority mail, so weight of the package does not have to be accurate to oz, only to pound level is sufficient.

If the package is real heavy, then I use the scale at my bath room.
