Earwax buildup

I think one of my ears is experiencing a wax buildup. Twice in the last week, I've woken up after sleeping on my side to find my left ear very clogged. After some massaging, I regain full hearing and it's fine for a day.

Several people have told me that a drop or two of olive oil into the ear at night will drain the wax during sleep. Does this work? I know hydrogen peroxide is supposed to be good as well.

I have heard the olive oil recommendation as well.

Worth noting - if you are using headphones (particularly in-ear monitors) frequently, this may be your ears telling you that you're listening at too high a volume. The increase in wax is your ears' natural way of trying to protect your hearing.

You know, I was afraid that had something to do with it. I've been wearing my in-ear headphones at work very frequently. I've noticed a dull ache after usage now and then. I think I need to start bringing in my over-the-ear headphones. Neo, I did buy new headphones. In-ear ones that cost me like $13. Nice waste of money now.

Lol. I echo dcg's sentiment (pardon the pun).

This thread has got me thinking, are Q-tips detrimental to one's ear health? I use them a few times a week fwiw.

Umm, extremely. You can easily shove wax against your eardrum and the cotton residue left behind can result in serious buildup and injury. I'll lower da volume!

Hello. It's not like I jam them in my ear willy nilly. Obviously, I clean around the outer ear and gently brush wax out of the canal. Or is that bad?

What the hell is HP?

$2.00 is a lot cheaper than a doctor visit.
