E. Tautz & Sons Vintage Suits: Value?

Hi guys,

I've recently come into possession of a vintage bespoke tweed E.Tautz suit that belonged to my wife's grandfather, who was a Hollywood/Broadway actor of some renown back in the day. Unfortunately, it doesn't come close to fitting me, either size-wise or style-wise. I've found a local designer/fashion historian who's interested in buying it--along with a couple of other custom English/Italian suits and trousers from my grandfather-in-law's attic--but he wants me to name a price and I have no idea how much to ask.

I'm not in this to make big bucks or anything. Mainly, I'd like to find a good home for the garments. Still, I don't want to be just giving away pieces of my wife's family's history--especially when they're such beautiful examples of the endangered craft of tailoring.

So I was hoping you could help. What's a fair ballpark price for a vintage Savile Row creation?

Thanks so much,
Andrew

Andrew, might be an idea to post this question on the Fedora Lounge, where many knowledgable and erudite vintage clothing experts can be found.

I would think provenance would be a factor to value here

Good luck.

You should post pics and measurements here. The readership is much larger--and the high end of sartorial expertise higher--than the Fedora Lounge.

All that may be true, but they buy more vintage than all of us put together I would wager. People here can tell him all about the wonderful construction and the unique Tautz lapel, people on FL can tell him what people pay retail for high-end vintage.

EDIT: Upon further reflection, you don't say what era it's from. It could be of too recent vintage for the FLers. In any event, you should post there as well. And we would all love to see pictures.

Indeed, some of them are current or former dealers in quality vintage clobber - so they should know what they are talking about when it comes to value.
