Dyeing Clothes (to cover up a stain)

Summary, I want to dye some Riviera Trousers from Hackett. They're cotton in mint green and I would like to dye them navy probably to cover up some whiskey stains.

Longer story: I bought them on Saturday and stupidly wore them to a bar the same day. Anyway, a friend of mine decided to pick up my drink and start dancing but instead of dancing around the drink she held it up and waved it around spilling it on everyone. She did this twice. She also hit a British television personality in the face while being spun round. Also twice.

Anyway, does anyone have experience of dyeing light coloured trousers? I don't really know where to begin but is there a favoured dye brand? I'm worried it will look like I've basically dyed my own clothes but being how much they cost I don't think I have much to lose.

I guess if I can't dye them I can make about 20 cotton pocket squares all in the same colour :/

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
