dyeing a linen jacket

i have one that is a light beige color but developed some stains. i'm thinking of dyeing it grey. has anyone done this?

FYI - The thread that is used to connect the linen pieces may not take the new color just as the linen does. What wasn't noticed previously may suddenly be noticed. I presume you have considered that any lining will suffer a similar fate.

A pen leaked inside a favorite beige dupioni silk odd jacket of mine many years ago. It simply was not worth the risk to take the jacket apart only to create additional problems by dyeing the pieces. I donated the damaged item to charity and ordered a new odd jacket to be made.

Maybe you will be more fortunate.

Linen shrins in hot water.
There are cold water dyes called Procion MX that will work.

I have washed linen and it shrunk, but I don't know if it will continue to shrink if I wash it again. I mean, this linen was for my sewing class and our instructor told us to pre-wash fabric before using it for our projects. So, my impression is it shouldn't shrink afterwards.

If you can not wear it as is, experiment. If successful would it beneficial to many people if you video the process and upload it on U-tube. You might also try fabric and vinyl spray paint, it is used for changing the colour of couch fabrics and comes in many different colours.

Attempting to dye a garment is a terrible idea. You're wasting both your time and your money.
