Dust? protect your shoes and have garment bags for your suits/leather?

I've got a line of clothes in my walk in closet and have heard from others not to leave the leather's exposed and the suits as well.

I have covers over my suits, but not on my leathers because I'm looking for "breathable" covers.

What do most of you use to protect against dust/dirt?

Also do you do anything for you shoes as well? I just have them in a row of shoes and didn't know if dust/dirt will do that much damage.
