I looked at Rockport and Clark's soles just seemed very thin and like I'd wear through them I also want a shoe that looks nice and dressy enough.

I really like the Allen Edmonds I think I'm going to go to the store about an hour from me and talk to someone there tell them what I'm doing and see what they say.

I really like Allen Edmonds but by the looks of them I won't be able to find a shoe that's going to puts old up to the abuse of an asphalt surface with rocks and stones on it.

I've had a different experience with my Desert Boots =/
Got my first pair in college and crepe sole wore through after a year (then again I wore them pretty hard).

Cruise through the AE website. They have several shoes on clearance. Factory seconds are available from the shoebank. And SF member allaboutshoes can get you a discount on first quality shoes. The most important thing is to make sure you have a good fit. A leather soled shoe that fits well will also be comfortable.

Rockport sole looks thin in some pictures but, they are not. They are also quite durable. By friend want clubbing the whole night with a half inch pieces of glass stuck to his sole without knowing it. I would put them in the same class as Cole Haan regular (not the top line of Cole Haan which are made in Italia). Allen Edmonds is also a good choice and don't forget that they offer a recrafting service for about 125$. If you use up your sole and beat up the top, they can repair the entire shoes and make it looks new again.

I like the idea of being recraftable but if I'm tearing up a thick rubber sole in 8-9 months I'd destroy Leather due to the pebbles and stones in our lot and having to walk in rain and grass at times I'd be resoling shoes every few months. Doesn't seem cost effective to me

I also looked at rockports in the store didn't seem as thick as the sole was on my cole haans and they were a firm thick tread not a soft compound so should have worn better but after 8-9 months are cracking and worn with a hole going through the sole right behind the ball of my foot

Increase your price range, car salesman make enough. Cordovan with a double sole wear well.

Car salesmen don't make as much as you think especially lately I may end up getting one pair and then a cheap dress shoe to alternate with untill I can afford anothe pair
