Can someone tell about dunhill dress shirts. Pattern matching/ MOP buttons/ single needle stitching/etc.

To be slightly more substantive than I was before:

Are you interested in the "Alfred Dunhill" shirts sold in Saks, which are pretty traditional in appearance, or the new, more fashion-forward offerings at dunhill boutiques? I believe Richard James is overseeing the latter.

The "Alfred Dunhill" shirts I have seen at Saks and C21 did not particularly impress. The buttons were pearl but looked to be pretty flimsy. Turnbull's buttons look a lot better.

I think the retail price is $225--if I were going to pay that much $ retail I would get Hilditch & Key which advertises that they have pattern matching, pearl buttons, and single-needle stitching, so at least you know what you are getting.

Good answer PB. To add to that, does the original poster have in mind the deep discount Dunhill on Sierra Trading Post's website? That's made in Italy but is likely a different subcontractor and may be old stock from before dunhill changed its design philosophies a few years ago.

To be honest I do recall seeing shirts at the Dunhill boutique in Bal Harbour several years ago (like 5-7 years ago) that were made in England and had MOP buttons, nicely shaped cutaway collars, and split-yokes that were pretty impressive.

I have several, one of which has 5% lycra, and I love them all. MOP, pattern matching, etc. Later this summer I'll be trying Dunhill's custom dress shirt program, after a successful MTM purchase this past fall. I'll post details of the process when it's finished.

Yeah, after checking out the website, you got me thinking. The Italian made Dunhill shirts are along the same line of quality as Corneliani RTW shirts--decent fabrics, thin shell buttons, pattern matching is hit or miss, and double-needle construction on most of the department store shirts (the old boutique Dunhills were quite nice).

Around $55-70, which is where I buy most of my "better" dress shirts, you can find the occasional Zegna, Lorenzini (if you can fit into Lorenzini), CT Sea Island, or TM Lewin. Otherwise, the price isn't bad, just not an all time deal.
