Dumb question: Sweet potatoes or yams?

In my quest to eat healthier, I have been eating a sweet potato for breakfast each morning. I recently discovered that sweet potatoes and yams are different, and yams (while still nutritious) are not the superfood that sweet potatoes are. My question is...have I been buying sweet potatoes or yams?? Label on the box says both. :embar:

I don't know the difference between them, but I know that both are good. I love them.

They're both actually sweet potato's. The lighter ones are marketed as yams, but the aren't really. Yams are an African vegetable that look similar... But it really doesn't matter what you call them they cook the same

Ah - yes I have been informed that yams in the U.S. are sweet potatoes. Thanks!
