Dry cleaning shrinkage

Hello guys

Is it normal for your suit trousers to feel a tad tighter in the waist following dry cleaning? I don't know if I am imagining it, but that seems to be the case for me after my trip to the cleaners (I'm a newb to suits and this was my first time dry cleaning)

I checked all the measurements I already knew from before (e.g. leg opening, rise length) and they appear to be fine - they don't seem to have lost any length in the leg, either. The jackets don't appear to have shrunk, I knew the length measurement of those and it remained exactly the same.

Is it kind of like a pair of jeans, they feel tighter when you put them on first time after laundering before they 'stretch out' again? Maybe I'm just paranoid? (Either way, cleaners are still Satan - they put my suits on wire hangers)

Thanks

wool - I did specify they need dry cleaning, and since they are a dry cleaners I presumed they would know how to clean it correctly..

I've never experienced this with both a cheaper and a snob-neighborhood dry cleaner alike on a bunch of suits for a bunch of years...nor heard of it. To my mind the dry cleaning process should never do this, but maybe a veteran can weigh in here.

I'd give the suitpants a day on this week. Issue might be gone by EOD

Sorry to dig up this thread... but I hadn't worn the suits til recently. One of the pairs of trousers, I seemed to be able to wear in, the other still seems tight.

My other question is; should dry cleaning leave the garment 100% odor free? My garments came back with a distinct odor. Not really unpleasant, but not pleasant either. Not sure how to describe it. I think I recall smelling the odor in the shop, which suggests it might just be the 'shop smell'. Or could it be solvent odor? Is this normal??

I realized only in hindsight that you need to really vet your cleaners, ask them about process, ensure they use 100% clean solvent, etc... I just handed over the items and assumed they could take care of it professionally. I'm beside myself as I spent years finding good looking, good fitting suits, not to mention subsequent time and cost of alterations to perfect the fit...
