Dropping a suit size?

So I bought a new suit recently, and after reading a few threads and reading Dressing the Man and The Suit I realize it's probably a little too small. I haven't worn it yet. It's mainly too small in the back(have some bunching under the collar/back area), maybe a tad bit small in the shoulders.

I'm wondering whether to return it for store credit or keep it. I was already in the process of losing weight/getting fit. I'm 25, 5'6" 190 right now(down from 200) and plan to get down to around 165-170. I've been watching what I eat and doing starting strength and gonna start cardio soon.

Currently I wear a 42S, the suit is a 42 but it's slimmer cut, probably closer to a 40(which in my unlearnedness I didn't realize it would be so much smaller). Am I better off returning this thing whether or not the store will ever have something else I like? Or might I be able to fit into this at some point in the near future?

FWIW I bought it despite my weight loss goals because all my suits now are God awful, with 4+ buttons and too long, in bad colors.

I realize this is a tough question to answer but any insight would be appreciated. Also want to make clear I didn't buy this for motivation. I'm already motivated to lose weight(I've already been losing weight) and this would just be something else to spur me on.

How bad is the bunching? If it's not too bad you could have some fabric let out to make it smoother. If it's really badly bunched there won't be enough fabric, but if it's just some rolling under the collar this may solve the issue.

could be alright, just keep your weight loss at a steady pace and you should be ok.

Work off the weight first, then buy the suit.

Yea the tailor said it's not enough fabric and even if he did let it out it would still be too small, so I guess by his standards it was too much bunching. He was a tailor that was recommended/discussed on these forums btw so his eye is probably good.

Again normally I wouldn't do this since I would sound like a ********* "I wanna fit into this dressss!" type of crap(which I hate) but since I'm taking weight off already maybe it won't be so bad. After I lose weight and it still doesn't fit maybe I can sell it here or something.

Only thing is now I'd be stuck with the crappy suits I have until I finish losing weight, as I don't wanna make this mistake again. Or maybe get some of the cheaper suits like Target for the time being.

how often do you plan on wearing this suit?

If you lose all the weight you intend to, you will definitely be a suit size smaller. Is that going to be a 2 month proposition? a 6 month proposition? a year proposition?

If you can lose the 20 lbs in 2 months (which i think is definitely doable). How often are you going to wear the suit? You should be able to look at your calendar right now and figure out when you're going to need a suit for the next two months.

Otherwise, you're going to get a bigger suit, and in 2 months, feel like an idiot.

I wear suits 3 days a week, and every once in a blue moon maybe 4 or 5 days. So if I got another one that's wearable right now it would be worn once or twice a week. I dunno I'll probably just hold off.

But yeah I plan to lose this weight in about 3 months. If sooner that's great as 2 1/2 months is probably a lil closer to the schedule I'm on now.

I like the idea of having a weighloss goal.
I did that, I wore a 52 US, then I wanted to fit in to a US 48, then came 46, then 44, now its 42.
I have now owned a bunch of high end suits, I think I am stable now (3 years).
