I actually found the opposite to be true. I actually felt for his character even though I know very a little about him. I have had the problem recently where I do not care about any character in the movie and it makes the movie meaningless to me. I think that Gosling's character was easy to like because he said very little allowing yourself to imagine what you wanted him to be like and the fact that he seemed to be nice to the family.

I thought the movie was very well cast. It kind of had a Infernal Affairs feel to me as far as the character development, but I have not watched that in a while so maybe I am wrong? :embar:

It's crazy to think that Hugh Jackman was originally selected to play the lead. Glad they went with Gosling.

That would have changed the whole movie. There was something very calming about Gosling. EEven with all going on around him. It seemed to calm the other characters at times as well. Which is realistic.

Absolutely loved it. I haven't been this tense in a movie since I saw 'No Country for Old Men'.

I absolutely loved this -- just saw it for the second time tonight (in as many days).

Albert Brooks' performance is reason alone to watch this, as is the cinematography and the score.

Overall though, Refn just does a really phenomenal job. It's a movie with such a powerfully well-executed vision.

I can see how others might compare it to No Country for Old Men. Two totally different movies but both exceptional. I think it's the long silences and short but intense action sequences that make people compare the two.
