Just curious how you guys think clothing factors into success in the business world. Let's assume that dressing well includes taking appropriateness into consideration.

Here's my take:
You will get nowhere strictly by dressing well. You will certainly loose points for being poorly dressed. Being well dressed combined with confidence (which can be boosted by being properly dressed), knowledge and skill will allow you to suceed.

Further, you need to be careful to distinguish between dressing well and appropriately in many circumstances. In many cases you do not want to appear loud or such. I guess dressing for success may include toning it down on things, even fit, to not appear to big for your britches.

It all depends on the rest of the package.

I have had many applicants for positions that dressed extremely well and are total bone heads, and on the flipside I have had total slobs apply that have an exceptional education/employment track record. Company image is very important to me, and I can't hire a slob..there needs to be some substance of being put together.

just send those slobs to bb or rl.

it's much easier to train those slobs to dress better than making those bone heads to be smarter.

But you have to admit the "image" is more than what you look like. You can be the best looking one there but if you cannot speak well or very introverted do not expect to make a significant impression

I would say clothing is 6% of the key to success during spring and summer, and 7.5% of the key to success during fall and winter.
