Dress shoes

Hello gentlemen,

I currently have the Florsheim Alpha style of dress shoe:

I love the style of the Alpha shoe, but is there any other brand of dress shoe with similar classic style in better quality or is Florsheim considered to be one of the best in Australia?

Theres a shop in the Strand Arcade that sells Loake and some other pretty classic styled shoes (prices from about 300).

Or there's a shop in the Centrepoint bulding (either skygarden or the one next to it I think) that sells some classic type shoes as well.

You can also look at DJ's in the City for their shoes. They have a pretty decent range (ok, so maybe not by SF stds) but can be pricey.

Imho, the shoeS in Oz are generally overpriced. Depending on your price range, here's my take on ithe situation:

1) Below $500: I guess Florsheim isn't bad, though the leather ain't that great. But hey, at roughly $200+ on sale, who can complain? Also, Loake is a decent option. Much of what we get is the corrected grain crap, but at least it's welted, and below $500 AUD.

2) $500 - $1,000: Personally, I like the shoes sold by Herringbone. They're made by Cheaney of England, and at $595 AUD, you get high-quality calf leather uppers, welted soles, and a sleek, elegant design. Got two cap-toe oxfords so far; one in black, one dark brown.

There's also Church's sold at Joseph's Shoes (Strand Arcade and Pitt Street), but they're corrected grain leather, and at $895, pretty overpriced.

Henry Buck's sells some Church's, Loake, and Fratelli Rosseti. These are pricier at roughly $700-$1000 AUD.

Harrolds sells Santoni and Fratelli Rosetti in roughly the same price range (Great shoes, but very expensive here!)

Ferragamo makes shoes for itself and Zegna, and there are some decent looking traditional shoes at each, but again, the price point is upwards of $700 AUD.

I hear that Vince Maloney sells Fratelli Rosetti on Elizabeth St, but have never checked out their f'wear.

3) Over $1,000: Varino at Double Bay sells Zegna Couture shoes, and then, there are the Artiolis at Harrolds. Quality is wonderful, but then, so's the price!!!

Might interest you to know that Peter Sheppard in Centrepoint Tower no longer sells Men's shoes.

Buying online from P Lal shoes (discount retailer in Malaysia selling C&J, Cheaney, and Loake) may be a good option if the x-change rate improves.
