Dress Shoes Around $400?

I'm looking to buy a pair of nice black dress shoes - I'm in my early 20's and getting into work in government/politics work, so something that isn't too flashy but not too stuffy would be ideal. Wear an 11 or so, and have slightly wide feet. Haven't needed to wear dress shoes much until recently, so figured I should invest in something good.

Can anyone give recommendations on what to get/brands to look into? Looking to spend around $400, but can go a tiny bit higher if needed. I'm in NYC, so happy to go to local stores too. Thanks in advance!

There are many shoe posts on this so you should check them out.

The typical recommendation in that price range would be closed lacing oxfords:

Allen Edmonds (Park Ave model for business)
Crockett and Jones (equivalent captoe model), don't know the name but I have a pair from C&J for RL
Alden (forum favorite, but I don't have much experience with Alden except for shell boots)

If you're willing to spend more:

Edward Greene
John Lobb

Also, a dark brown would be much more versatile than black shoes and can be worn with almost anything so you might want to consider that.

I wouldn't call Alden a forum favorite. C&J and Carmina are the most discussed brands on here in that price range.

Allen Edmonds Park Aves in Black would be suitable for you. If you try them on in store and tell me you size, I can get one for you at a substantial discount.
