Dress shirt in London

I've recently had a vintage dinner jacket fall into my hands after mine mysteriously disappeared when I loaned it to my brother. I now need to find myself a new shirt to go with it.

I work in Marylebone and I've had a look around various shops on my lunch hours and it seems quite difficult to actually find dress shirts in store and I would really like to be able to try it on rather than buy online so I'm asking for your kind assistance.

Criteria are: classic collar, pleated front and costing no more than about £100 or so. Ideally in a slim or slim-ish fit.

If it makes any difference the dinner jacket is single button shawl lapel.

Sorry, should clarify a little. It is not beyond me to have a walk down Jermyn Street, but if there are any other options I'm open to suggestions.

H&K and H&H are in my budget, so any advice on their fit would be appreciated. Turnbull & Asser is, I'm afraid, slightly out of my budget (about £160 I think).

-If you want a formal pleated shirt - it's a bit more than the dress shirts.
-IMO H&K, N&L tend to have a fuller cut, anyway with formal pleats most tend to be fuller cuts
-Suggest you try it on in their store for fit
-Doubt prices in the stores will be the same as online

Thanks for that. Still open to suggestions from outside Jermyn Street. That said, I was going to look at MTM at Stephan Haroutunian for more general shirts. Might see what their evening shirts are like.

In American English, a button up shirt you might wear with a lounge suit is a "dress shirt". In British English, a shirt is a shirt, and a shirt you would wear with a DJ is a "dress shirt" aka "formal shirt".

At least I thought that was the case.

Click on the TM Lewin link. It's thoroughly British. There, it's called a formal, evening dress shirt. Hope that helps.
