I'm trying to figure out what kind of shirts would fit me. I have a 10 inch chest to waist drop, and that's a minimum number. I'm not sure how measurements are taken, but I measure 41 in chest (without inhaling, without flexing) and 31 in waist (and it's been 1-2 inches lower in the past weeks). Any suggestions?

Can you give us a neck size? That will help with sizing advice.

Measuring yourself and then applying that metric to a shirt or jacket size can be a bit precarious.
For example, I am a 42' chest, but I wear a 39R suit jacket and 16'-32' shirt (I do prefer a trim/fit cut).
I rarely find that what I measure on myself applies directly to a shirt or pant size at a retailer, even when I follow Henry Huntsman's online example of how to measure yourself... ;o)

If not in the mood or economic frame of mind to visit your local tailor, sometimes its best to just go out to a store and try on jackets and pants.
As for pre-packaged dress shirts, you can make a best guess to your neck and sleeve, and if the size is a bit off simply return it for an agreeable fit... something easily accomplished just after the holidays.

Happy hunting,
