Dress like the Great Depression

Here is an interesting article from an Economist of all people who apparently ran a clothing shop at one time in his life.

Despite some flaws i.e. 4 button suits?? he does capture the simplicity and importance of dressing well. This is actually an update to an article he penned a few years back called How to Dress Like a Man. That article actually snapped me out of the slobwear trap I had fallen in to.

By the way, the website this is from is simply the best in the world if you care about the world we live in, in my not so humble opinion.

That guy is pretty hardcore about it.

The casual CEO was somewhat geared toward tech firms IMO, they mentioned music, but alot of those that are successful in music suit up.

I think his recommendations were OK, except for the 4 button recommend.

I also feel he might be contradicting himself in that collar pins were actually quite common in the 30's.

I agree with most of his points except for the four-button jacket (as others mentioned) and hats -- they mess up my hair (glad I still have some) and look a bit pompous in this day and age. Sunglasses and umbrellas do a better job.

Oddly enough I was just thinking of hats today. Since I am now follically challenged and have adopted the clipper no guard look and feeling awfully cold today in a late season burst of winter here in Vancouver. Not sure where to start but would feel better if more people got back in to hats.

check those pictures i doubt if there is 1% of the men without hats or caps.
although most of the suits are questionable, all all of these men try to look their best given very slim resources.

i think hats still serve a useful purpose. in Texas (among other place), it gets very hot during the summer months. I believe a hat is still useful as far as shading the face and keeping it cool. and they look good.

I wonder what maker of 4-button suits he is recommending. I can't imagine one that looks good. This advice seems to contradict everything else he recommended.

Since he seems to lack the language of clothes, he may well mean double-breasted.
